Fall Science - Investigating Pumpkins. A fabulous science exploration for the fall season, check out this pumpkin investigation lesson from Lindsay over at The Good Life.
It's a great group activity and will have your kiddos making predictions, counting, and working with adjectives! Not only that, we love the sensory component and know your preschoolers will have a blast exploring both the outside and innards of the pumpkin. While not necessary for the activity to work, we just love anchor charts and this one is super cute! It offers a great way to collect data and student observations/predictions. Did you notice the bottom?

If you're still suffering through the lingering summer heat, I know you're with me when I say that I can't WAIT for the cooler temps. But look what I found -- colored leaves, acorns that have fallen to the ground and mums! Ahhh, signs of Fall. This week's linky will Discover & Explore Fall Activities.
We're also introducing our first Invitation to Explore. An Invitation to Explore is a way to encourage children to discover something new and look deeper into a topic that interests them. One of my favorite things about these invitations is that they inspire discussions. There are so many fun ways to enjoy the season and one of the biggest changes kids will notice is what is happening in nature. For this invitation, you will need to go on a nature scavenger hunt and round up a variety of items. I decided to gather the items while the kids were at school so it would be a surprise when they got home.

We finally took it down this past week after having it up for almost two months! I love having easy and accessible activities for the kids up on my walls. This weekend we made a Fall tree using some tagboard and crayons. We stuck it up on our wall and covered it with contact paper (with the sticky side out) and then taped the contact paper in place. Teaching with TLC: Create marbled fall leaves with shaving cream!
Hi friends!
I can't wait to share with you the marbled fall leaves my kids made today! As many of you already know, my children are hooked on the shaving cream art projects. Their addiction began with the Marbled Shaving Cream Eggs. Next, they made the Shaving Cream Earths for Earth Day and then Fourth of July Shaving Cream Stars. So of course they asked to make fall leaves with the shaving cream.
But before I begin sharing the photos, I must confess that I may be suffering from a mild case of blogger's envy. First, I do not have a nice camera and probably will not for a l-o-n-g time. Second, I can no longer snap action shots. Last, my posts are usually brief and to the point. Fall Poem/Song for Preschool, Kindergarten, & First Grade. Fall Leaf Number Movement Game.
Numbers are everywhere!
My kids love finding numbers in books, on buildings, and around the house. My son came home from kindergarten the other day and wanted to show me how he wrote his numbers. We created a simple number game where he could practice writing numbers while my toddler could practice recognizing and matching numbers. Since Fall is fast approaching, we decided to write numbers 0-10 on some paper leaves and create Fall inside our house! My kiddos never stop moving... so they came up with a fun way that they could move around a lot while still learning. Before we started playing the game, we had to get a few things ready. Here are the supplies we needed... pencolored cardstockscissorslarge easel papermarkers Here's what we prepped ahead of time...
Fall Leaf Counting Activity for Kids. After our previous post {the fall sensory bin & scavenger hunt from Mommyhood}, we had a chance to check out the rest of the activities in the post and thought we'd share this idea as well!
It's super simple, but sure to help your kiddos improve their counting skills and build numeral recognition.
