Traditional Wassail Recipe. When Figs Fly // Spiced Rum Fig Kombucha Cocktail. At our core, we are all balance.
It’s how we are meant to exist, it is necessary to our survival. It is how we choose to live our lives, in the most simplest of forms, that take this delicate rhythm away from it’s natural state. As I was creating this recipe, it struck me, like a huge truck in fact, I am truly the epitome of a libra and a middle child, through and through. I like when things are even and balanced, I like to see all sides, I like the middle and I love the way life feels when equanimity is at the forefront. The scales may flutter about, but ultimately I don’t feel right when my life is not in balance.
This Spiced Rum Fig Kombucha Cocktail is just another example of how I truly embody the idea of balance, even in the most casual of moments in life. This delicate balancing act, the feeling when everything is perfectly aligned and the need for it in my life, these are likely the exact reasons why I found and fell in love with yoga nearly 10 years ago. Sunday Dinner: Valentine’s Day Edition // Chanterelle and Chestnut Bisque, Co... This Sunday Dinner post is a big one – I’m not even entirely sure where to start.
There’s the obvious, of course, that it was for our Valentine’s Day celebration, so it had to be special and a little bit decadent. There’s the fact that we prepared it during a blizzard, the third big storm in what feels like a never-ending chain of snow and white skies and freezing temperatures – a winter so beyond our imaginations that our city is stuck somewhere between awe, deep frustration, and total apathy. There’s the coffee-crusted duck, the centerpiece of the meal, that we lifted from the menu at Bouchard in Newport, where we spent a wonderful evening last weekend, dining in quiet elegance before slipping back to a room with a fireplace and a four-poster bed, where I wanted to stay forever.
Winter Sangria. Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher Recipe. It’s been a painful few weeks, but I’ve finally come to accept that my 49ers aren’t in the Superbowl (it sure took me long enough).
Now that I’m not listening to sports radio or football podcasts, I found time to make this ridiculously delicious pitcher of blood orange margaritas. Whenever blood oranges are in season this is my go-to libation. I usually mix up a batch to bring with me to parties. Homemade Chai Concentrate - My Heart Beets. I’ve been drinking masala chai since I was a kid. Sure, back then my mom probably made it with more milk than tea, but the flavor was still there. Growing up in an Indian household, freshly made chai was served at least two times a day, more so if we had guests. It didn’t matter whether it was 100 degrees outside, my parents would still drink their two cups of creamy, hot chai. My mom continues to drink her two cups of chai everyday. So twice a day, she washes her tea pot and goes through the tedious process of crushing spices and boiling tea.

Get to the market, and we'll show you what to do with your haul. Today: A sassy, slightly blasphemous version of a classic to make your holiday season better. After we try Clyde Common’s eggnog our first reaction is think about how awesome this would be in bread pudding. And then we begin to consider that it’s something like a deranged protein shake -- what with its 12 eggs and serious slap on the ass from hard alcohol -- but we decide to return to the first comment because right now, that's the point. Then, earlier this week we had the honor of sharing the beautiful Berkeley, CA home of blogger, stylist, photographer and cookbook author Erin Scott of Yummy Supper. Today I’m thrilled to combine both of those posts in the form of one delicious drink recipe from Erin’s spectacular new book, Yummy Supper: 100 Fresh, Luscious & Honest Recipes from a Gluten-Free Omnivore. Aviation Classic Cocktail Recipe. It’s been a while since I made us a classic cocktail. I know, completely unacceptable! Thankfully I received a bottle of Caorunn gin (hooray for booze mail!) And immediately thought of the Aviation. This delightfully sophisticated cocktail is just too pretty (and tasty) to overlook. In fact, there may even be an embarrassing old video of me making an Aviation floating somewhere around the internet, but no need to discuss that at the moment! Cocktails with Graham: the paper plane — CocoJenalle.
Graham recently swung by Camp 4 and was introduced to the "Paper Plane by Damara. It's a relatively new mix, named after MIA's "Paper Planes", and traditionally consists of equal parts bourbon, Amaro, Aperol and lemon juice (Damara prefers to make it with lime juice to give it some a pop). Graham was an instant fan, and informed me that it would be our first cocktail project together. The best way I can summarize my feelings is that this will definitely be on the roster of favourites. I had hoped to publish the post for this celebratory cocktail before today. But we've been on the road, and the historic lodge we stayed at for the last two nights had an equally historic internet connection.
