Speech and Language Impairments

1. I included a list of accommodations/modifications that are typical for students with speech/language disorders, because there was lots of information that would be useful to accommodate these students during testing/evaluation.
2.

I also wanted to have a reference for the types of assessments that are used to evaluate students for a speech/language disorder. I was not as familiar with this as I would like to be (especially because I have a child in speech), and this will be an excellent reference when I want to look back at which assessments have completed and for what purpose.
3. I wanted to include the Spanish speaking evaluation guide, because there are a good amount of families here who speak Spanish, and obviously, the letter sound correspondences and speech patterns are very different, adding an additional layer of complexity to diagnosing a speech/language issue.
4. The evaluation guide is an excellent resource to use when evaluating a student for speech/language disorders. It lays out everything you need to know/do, in an easy to follow step-by-step pattern.
5. The eligibility worksheet is a great checklist to have on hand to ensure that all requirements have been met during evaluation. It is something that will really come in handy, especially as I need to refer less to the full evaluation guide.
6. I included the state law for those occasions when you really need to get down to brass tacks and see exactly what the law says.

1. Classroom Accommodations/Modifications - Speech and Language Impairments. Classroom Accommodations/Modifications for Speech Impairments: The most effective support for students with speech impairments is to receive speech therapy given by a speech-language pathologist (SLP).
