Alta Moda’s Luxurious Fashion Show. Four days will quickly steep themselves in night;Four nights will quickly dream away the time.
Stefano Gabbana, the fashion designer, leaned on the railing of his yacht, the Regina d’Italia, and smiled. His neighbors in the Portofino marina were enjoying an early-evening aperitivo on the deck of the Ester III—an enormous vessel, with a helipad on top and a transparent-frame swimming pool on the lower deck, that had drawn admiring stares from pedestrians on the quay all afternoon. The neighbors waved; he waved back. “A client,” he said, with the air of confiding an obvious secret. It was a Wednesday evening in July, the week after most French and Italian haute-couture houses had defied a heat wave in Paris to show their latest collections. Photographer Cristina de Middel's Intoxicating Blend of Truth and Fiction. This article originally appeared on VICE Mexico.
Cristina de Middel trained as a photojournalist but chose to drop the profession in order to—as she says—seek reality through fiction. In 2013, the International Center of Photography in New York gave Cristina the Infinity Award for her book The Afronauts, which was based on the 1960s Zambian space program, which aimed to put the first African man in space. I met up with Cristina for a coffee, and even though we intended to discuss specific photo projects, we ended up discussing her vision of photography, as well as her work in general.

Look at his work you’ll see references to countless bygone eras and sartorial icons of yesteryear.
In his latest story for Harper’s Bazaar, Lagerfeld looks to legendary American socialites Mona von Bismarck & Millicent Rogers, women so revered for their good taste that whole museum collections exist to catalogue their stylish lives. Lanvin Men S/S13. Posted by stephan | July 16th, 2012 Lanvin Men S/S 13 For Spring 2013, Lanvin menswear designers Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz went for a stark black-and-white palette, paring the collection down for a focus on cut and texture rather than the rich colors the house has always employed to such pleasing effect.
In a season where hues have run rampant, it was refreshing on the last day of Paris Fashion Week to see designs that emphasized contour and shape, the monochromatism a rebuke of sorts to those who need flashy bright highlighter shades to attract attention. Berluti Men S/S13. Posted by models.com | July 10th, 2012 Berluti Men S/S 13 The expansion of luxury shoemakers Berluti into menswear continued with a vast presentation that took over the gardens of Paris’ Palais Royal with a passel of stage sets stuffed full of intricate objects that spoke of taste and privilege.
There were gorgeous leather bags and shoes in a hundred colors, all made by hand to the brand’s exacting standards. The clothes themselves—worn by a cast that mixed models with what the industry likes to call “real” men, the result of an exhaustive casting process taking over 3 months—were refined and classically elegant, the kinds of designs that have looked perfect for decades and will continue to for decades to come. Kenzo Men S/S13. Posted by stephan | July 9th, 2012 Kenzo Men S/S 13 It was a long trek to the Institut National du Judo on the southern end of Paris for Kenzo‘s Spring 2013 show, but well worth the journey, as Opening Cermony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took another major step forward with their revival of the legendary Parisian fashion house.

Fans of his work will see the signature shapes brought to life using the richest of materials and the most precise details and those unfamiliar with his oeuvre will find themselves taken by his austere brand of refinement. Viktor and Rolf Men S/S13. Posted by stephan | July 5th, 2012 Viktor and Rolf Men S/S 13 Viktor & Rolf have never been ones to get caught up in a complicated backstory, and it was the same for their Spring 2013 collection, which found inspiration, fleetingly, in a colonial idea of India. But rather than sending out dhotis or Nehru jackets, the duo instead limited the references to the light color palette and the straw caps several of the models wore. KrisVanAssche Men S/S13. Kris Van Assche went back to basics for Spring 2013, turning to the simplest plain white tee for the foundation of a collection that was powerful in its stark simplicity. Van Assche explained that he was working with the duality of city and sports, a pairing that resulted in hybrid shirts that were poplin button-up in front and t-shirt in back, and trousers with elastic waists and zippered ankles.
There was an athletic feel to the looser cuts as well, with wide-legged shorts and jeans that looked gym-ready, but for their urbane materials. There was a youthful and sporty feel to the palette as well, a range of grays and beiges with a few looks each in cabernet and indigo. Kenzo Cool. Versace Men. Versace has never been shy about its Classical affinities, so it was a bit of a surprise that the wrestlers which opened the Spring 2013 show were less of the Greco-Roman variety and more in the vein of WWE fighters, mostly naked save for their tiny briefs, shiny robes, and blinged-out championship belts.
After that buzzy opening, the collection showed Donatella up to all her old tricks, from the sleek, shimmering metallic suits to the blown-up floral prints and Greek key border that is a recurring motif for the house. Despite all the flesh on display—with sleeveless blazers aplenty, sometimes worn with nothing but a few chains underneath—there were still plenty of reminders of Versace’s strength with masculine tailoring. A number of the jackets leaned toward the utilitarian, covered with pockets and zippers that added a casual twist to the sturdy suiting.

Invitations went out with a manifesto of nine “rules of the Show” attached, dictating the parameters under which a single model will run through the entire Spring 2013 men’s collection while living in a Marais gallery for over sixty hours this week. Rule number five orders the model to spend both his waking and sleeping hours in a “small compartment built from cardboard boxes and wood planks” in the storefront window, although rule number four allows him to leave “presumably to relieve himself every so often.” Diesel Black Gold Men.
