Tutoring - Brighton School

Tutoring is done by Brighton trained staff, and is available for all grades in all subjects. Tutoring is available both after school and some times throughout the school day. We are also able to offer remote tutoring sessions via Google Meet. Our tutoring packages are available either by the term or for the full year, with a choice of 1 – 5 days per week. Our rates of $95/hr are competitive and affordable! We offer tutoring in all subject areas. Recess and Lunch Clubs are free for our students. After School Clubs After School Clubs change each term and themes generally include sports, arts, music or science. For example, smaller group sizes allow each student to receive personalized attention. In addition to academics, we focus on social skills; self-management strategies; self-advocacy; and skills for independent living, including fitness, shopping, community skills & cooking. Courses in technology, music, arts, home economics and transit training are also included. Literacy skills are taught daily in our language and communication class. Our Pre-Credit program is designed to focus on the development of prerequisite skills needed for entry into credit courses; and/or focus on the continued remediation of literacy and numeracy skills.

Depending on abilities, needs and working levels, students may participate in the pre-credit program for one, two or more years. Pre-credit courses are not credit-earning courses. Pre-credit courses are designed for students who are working 2 – 3 years below grade level, and have an emphasis on practical, hands-on, experiential learning. Pre-credit courses are offered in English, Math, Science, Social Science and the Arts. Most courses are taught in parallel with, and use the credit curriculum, but proceed at a slower pace and do not cover all of the content required to earn a credit. Students may enroll in a combination of Pre-credit, Credit or Alternative courses, for a customized program. Secondary Education Credit Programs for Special Needs Students - Brighton School.

Brighton offers special education programs for students with special needs with 4 – 5 credit courses per year, selected from Locally Developed, Open or Workplace Courses.

Our courses are run on a full-year schedule, instead of semesters, which allows for better consolidation and retention of concepts. Courses are taught at a slower pace, with more academic, social, and homework support. Brighton is a Ministry of Education inspected school where programs for students with learning disabilities are promoted. Our credit program allows students to earn up to 14 credits towards an OSSC (Ontario Secondary School Certificate).

Students earning less than 14 credits will be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment. High School Programs for Students with Special Needs. Brighton’s innovative Secondary program is designed to address the needs of students who would have difficulties meeting the demands of a typical high school program and social environment.

We enhance learning with the use of several specialty programs designed for students who have difficulties in various subject areas. We’re committed to using best-practices, evidence-based teaching methods and materials for our students. Highlights of some of the specialty programs we use include: Reading Mastery is the main reading program that we use at Brighton. This well-researched, evidence-based Direct Instruction program uses structured and carefully sequenced daily lessons that build on skills and concepts taught from one lesson to the next. Brighton uses a number of programs in the Direct Instruction family, to meet student needs, including Corrective Reading Decoding; Corrective Reading Comprehension; Language for Learning; Language for Thinking; and Reasoning & Writing.
