Probably I'm the only one who would make this association :) Cables! This shawl has a lot of cables! I was thinking how cables are usually knitted either horizontally or vertically, and that's kind of boring, so I decided to put these cables on a diagonal. The shawl is worked from one of the corners, with increases at the end of the RS row in every odd row. The shawl in the picture is mid-sized and the yarn amounts are given for this size. It's not as big as I wanted but I ran out of yarn. Below is the pattern. I used a total of four skeins of Joann's Sensations yarn (two Sophisticates Collection "Fever" in Purple (a boucle type with beads) and 2 Sophisticates Collections "Fantasy" (a shiny ribbon) in Multi.
