Disclaimer: Today, I have an easy display table for a game board. I understand that some people may not like the content of this post. A friend of mine requested this custom order. Perhaps you could use the idea with your favorite game board. Back in the Summer I picked up this small table and a Ouija Board (not pictured) at a thrift store. The table is very versatile, having two sets of shelves, a magazine rack and 3 small drawers. The little table got a quick makeover of some gray primer during one of my Finish Max marathons. I chose some wide crown molding to frame out the table, making the cuts on my compound miter saw. I sprayed it Beluga Black when I sprayed the t.v. console….it’s so easy to do multiple projects at once.
I used Gorilla Wood Glue to attach the game board. I glued the trim and used my nail gun to secure them. There was a small gap which I filled with painter’s caulk, and then touched up the paint. Play Stuff Blog » Archives » Ouija Board: “Yes, Yes” and “Oh, No!” First patented in 1891, the Ouija Board has been popular ever since—a remarkably long run.
Moving a heart-shaped “planchette” across a board printed with an alphabet, the numbers 0-9, and YES and NO options allowed players to spell out and compile apparently un-sourced “messages.” The effect was mysterious then and remains a bit spooky today. It’s no coincidence that Ouija became popular in the late 1800s when spiritualism was sweeping from Europe to the United States. The original sellers promised an “intelligent answer to any question” and surpassing effects in “mind-reading,” “second sight,” and “clairvoyance.”
At that time, hypnotists entertained drawing room gatherings with their mysterious arts. We can hardly blame people for craving explanations for the unexplained. Ouija didn’t come to Parker Brothers until 1966, well into the Space Age, yet it still carried a hint of eeriness. Here is what we know to be true. Confession: I Tried to Contact My Cat's Ghost Using a Ouija Board. Our old cat, Mew, died when I was around 11.
As hers was my first experience with the death of a loved one, I wasn't quite sure how to react. Even though we still had our two younger cats prowling around our home, I couldn't help but feel that something was amiss. Mew had been the kitty matriarch of our family, and her absence made us all feel a little discombobulated and antsy for days, even weeks, after her death. I remember thinking that it felt like we had moved into a new house -- not quite settled, and still attempting to feel normal. So I decided a kitty seance was in order. When left to my own devices, Sammy, my four-legged partner in crime, and I would often go ghost hunting in the ravine behind our house.
We never did meet the big gray man-ghost. Morbid History : Spiritualism. Have you ever sat at a Ouija board with a few friends, put your fingers on the planchette (yes, that is what that pointy thing is called) and tried to talk to a spirit with the intention of communicating and collecting evidence on the unknown?
How about sitting in a circle around a crystal ball and read out tarot card fortunes? No? Then you missed the craze! That’s right! Spiritualism and mediums were the favorite taboo pastime activity during the mid 1800’s to well into the 20th century! Carnet d images Botanique.
Planches botanique.
