To organize and manage more sustainable events - this is the new aim of Bureau Betak, a company specializing in the production and design of fashion shows, which orchestrates hundreds of events each year.
Earlier this year, the company received ISO 20121 certification, a voluntary international standard for eco-friendly event management. As a result, all projects managed by Bureau Betak (from Paris to New York via Shanghai) will be designed (from procurement to production) with a more sustainable approach to the environment. The best part? The company is also committed to forming the Do Tank committee; a team made up of committed influencers, NGO representatives and heads of fashion and luxury brands.
“Bureau Betak hopes to lead by example, such that the ephemeral nature of fashion events becomes an opportunity to develop and implement innovative thinking and better practices throughout the industry.” says the official statement from the company. Later this year, construction will begin on the eco-friendly transformation of Tribeca’s Pier 26, that’s part of the Hudson River Park.
Ahead of that launch, the Hudson River Park Trust, the organization in charge of the park, has unveiled a host of new renderings for the multi-purpose pier. On the western end, the pier will have a tiered, wetland tidal pool area that will be used for educational purposes. Once complete, this area will be open for students to visit (during low tide) and learn about climate change, the habitat, and salinity, among other things. A large portion of the pier will also have wooden decking—on the western end this deck will rise as high as 15 feet and overlook the wetlands, and offer up lovely NYC views.

To achieve this level of sustainability, Nolla’s owners worked with local suppliers to find eco-friendly alternatives to single-use packaging. For farm suppliers, produce is delivered using reusable wood crates, while in the case of other suppliers, Nolla purchased containers that could be repeatedly used. For example, Nolla owners asked their local coffee supplier to use a hard plastic container instead of normal vacuum-sealed plastic plastic bags. In addition to how they source their ingredients, Nolla serves a seasonal set menu, which allows the restaurant to utilize what’s local and available and order just the right amount of food, allowing Nolla to avoid surplus ingredients. Eco-luxury domes by Bourgeois/Lechasseur peer from Quebec forest. A trio of grey camping domes, which peek out like beady eyes from a hillside forest in Quebec, form a luxury eco-resort designed by Canadian firm Bourgeois/Lechasseur.
The site is located on mountain in Petite-Rivière-St-François – a municipality near to the Le Massif de Charlevoix ski range. The domes form the first phase of a sustainable tourist resort developed by Dômes Charlevoix. To meet the environmentally friendly aims of the project, local studio Bourgeois/Lechasseur Architectes wanted the three holiday cabins to make little impact on the natural surroundings. Ambitions included a minimal footprint and conserving as many trees as possible. Each of the structure is cantilevered from the hill using delicate bracing, and elevated to sit just underneath the tree canopy. "The three domes... blend in harmoniously with the landscape," said Bourgeois/Lechasseur in a project description. The structures at Dômes Charlevoix were prefabricated and installed on site.

For the launch of the brand’s campaign called Planet Earth’s Favorite Vodka—which encourages consumers to practice sustainability—the brand held a private event in New York that encouraged attendees to trade in recyclables for cocktails in an environment where recycled materials were used as decor. For Absolut Bar Recycle, which took place April 22 at West Edge, the brand tapped Team Epiphany to design an interactive space with vignettes and bars made from recycled materials and natural elements such as recycled wooden pallets, bubble wrap, and fresh flowers and greenery.
