Pre-internet age… Polish culture has had little bearing on the global landscape, contributions of selected artists notwithstanding.
Certain events were often propelled forward due to those artist’s own projects. Rarely do these kinds of bold artistic statements emerge amidst the socio-political turmoil of today’s Poland. In my extensive artistic career, I have had a chance to witness at least two such monumental events in the early 1980s – INFERMENTAL and Konstrukcja w Procesie (Construction in Process). Since the latter project has already received recognition, allow me to take its predecessor under close scrutiny. Several members of the Warsztat Formy Filmowej (Workshop of the Film Form) arrive in Budapest at the invitation of the Centre for Polish Culture to present their multimedia works of art – Małgorzata Potocka, Paweł Kwiek, Ryszard Waśko and yours truly (Józef Robakowski).

HD video, 6 min. loop, 2 channels "In Momentum, the camera not only functions as the missing studio mirror for the dancers but also visualizes the memory of the artist behind the camera.
Indeed, it documents the artist's perspective in the process of art making, objectively capturing the dancers' waiting and preparation as Simpson corrects the lighting and sets the color balance. Similarly, it reflexively incorporates its own editing, using abrupt cuts and loops to craft a sense of time that makes visible the respective blind spots and circularity of the artist's memory. While Simpson does not physically appear before the camera, the group of nearly two dozen dancers function as a refracted image of her performing self. " "In Momentum, Simpson transforms the memory of a bygone moment into a legible form.

Trayectoria. Christian Lagata. Proyectos. Renée Green. Renée Green (born 1959) is an American artist, writer, and filmmaker.
Her pluralistic practice spans a broad range of media including sculpture, architecture, photography, prints, video, film, websites, and sound, which normally converge in highly layered and complex installations. She works to draw on cultural anthropology as well as social history, making her works well-researched and many times involving collaborators.[1] Some of the topics she has covered include Sarah Barman, the African slave trade, and hip hop in Germany.
Her brother is Derrick Green, frontman of the metal band Sepultura. In 2014, Green published Other Planes of There: Selected Writings with Duke University Press, a work that compiles a substantial collection of her work written between 1981 and 2010.[2] Education[edit] Mike Nelson (artist) Michael "Mike" Nelson (born 20 August 1967) is a contemporary British installation artist.
He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2011.[1] Nelson has twice been nominated for the Turner Prize: first in 2001 (that year the prize was won by Martin Creed), and again in 2007 (when the winner was Mark Wallinger). Nelson's installations always only exist for the time period of the exhibition which they were made for. They are extended labyrinths, which the viewer is free to find their own way through, and in which the locations of the exit and entrance are often difficult to determine.
His "The Deliverance and the Patience" in a former brewery on the Giudecca was in the 2001 Venice Biennale.[2] In September 2007, his exhibition A Psychic Vacuum was held in the old Essex Street Market, New York.[3] Essays on Nelson's projects, '24A Orwell Street King's Cross Sydney'[4] and 'The Deliverance and the Patience'[5] have been written by artist/curator Richard Grayson. Sam Durant. Sam Durant (born 1961, in Seattle) is a multimedia artist whose works engage a variety of social, political, and cultural issues.
Often referencing American history, his work explores the varying relationships between culture and politics, engaging subjects as diverse as the civil rights movement, southern rock music, and modernism.[1] Education[edit] Durant received a BFA in sculpture in 1986 from the Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Career[edit] Tacita Dean. Angus Fairhurst. Angus Fairhurst (4 October 1966 – 29 March 2008) was an English artist working in installation, photography and video.
He was one of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Life and work[edit] Fairhurst's Man Abandoned by Colour (1991) Fairhurst's work was often characterised by visual distortion and practical jokes. An example is his drawing of a gorilla holding a fish under its oxter and both staring at a plate of chips. Stuckism. After exhibiting in small galleries in Shoreditch, London, the Stuckists' first show in a major public museum was held in 2004 at the Walker Art Gallery, as part of the Liverpool Biennial. The group has demonstrated annually at Tate Britain against the Turner Prize since 2000, sometimes dressed in clown costumes. They have also come out in opposition to the Charles Saatchi-patronised Young British Artists.[9][10] Billy Childish. Billy Childish (born Steven John Hamper, 1 December 1959) is an English painter, author, poet, photographer, film maker, singer and guitarist. Since the late 1970s, Childish has been prolific in creating music, writing and visual art.
He has led and played in bands including the Pop Rivets, Thee Milkshakes, Thee Headcoats, and the Musicians of the British Empire, primarily working in the genres of garage rock, punk and surf and releasing more than 100 albums. He is known for his explicit and prolific work – he has detailed his love life and childhood sexual abuse, notably in his early poetry and the novels My Fault (1996), Notebooks of a Naked Youth (1997), Sex Crimes of the Futcher (2004) – The Idiocy of Idears (2007), and in several of his songs, notably in the instrumental "Paedophile" (1992) (featuring a photograph of the man who sexually abused him on the front cover) and "Every Bit of Me" (1993). From 1981 until 1985 Childish had a relationship with artist Tracey Emin. Music[edit] Young British Artists. The Young British Artists, or YBAs[1]—also referred to as Brit artists and Britart—is the name given to a loose group of visual artists who first began to exhibit together in London, in 1988.
Many of the first generation of YBA artists graduated from the BA Fine Art course at Goldsmiths, in the late 1980s, the second rather from the Royal College of Art.[2] Many of the artists were initially supported and collected by Charles Saatchi, a notable exception is Angus Fairhurst.[5] Leading artists of the group include Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.
Key works include Hirst's The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, a shark preserved in formaldehyde in a vitrine, and Emin's My Bed, a dishevelled double bed surrounded by detritus.[6] Origin[edit] Mindmachinemakingmyths on Vimeo.
