Red Dog Guitars ~Cigar Box Guitar~ Guitars-Custom Made By Fred Carlson. In Collaboration with MoMA, N.Y. In 1918, the Russian Suprematist, Kasimir Malevich (1878-1935) took the two-dimensional picture-plane to its logical abstract conclusion with the creation of his historic canvas, White on White.
With the advent of the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1929, art ranging from Post-Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism became a serious commercial enterprise. In a frenzy, collectors, museums and corporations successfully elevated the value of contemporary art, creating unprecedented demand worldwide. Art dealers and critics were raving about the new abstract form of painting; but in reality the art and the artists were exhausted.
Modern genres of painting became baffling to the viewer and understanding required an owner's manual style manifesto to hopefully demystify its visual truth. Bamboo Saxophones, unique wind instruments made from bamboo, odd music. Carefully electronically tuned, Ángel Sampedro del Rio's Bamboo saxophones consist of segments of bamboo successively larger in diameter.
This progression has now been demonstrated by acoustical studies as the most harmonically effective. The joints are extremely solid and resistant over time. They have keys that cover toneholes outside the reach of the fingers. Since 1985 he has developed and built this instrument, with equal attention to acoustic design and aesthetics. Their interior is protected against changes of humidity, frequent in all wind instruments. They use conventional sax reeds, which can be acquired in any good musical store in the world. The Bamboo sax is not an imitation of brass saxes, it is an instrument in its own right. Visit Ángel's Bamboo Sax website and other bamboo instruments at: www.unmundodebambu.com.ar.

Dr. How to Play a Theremin" Have you ever watched one of those lovably corny sci-fi flicks from the 1950s and wondered how they possibly made that eerie music -- you know, the kind that just sends chills up your spine?
The answer is the theremin. The theremin's sound has since become synonymous with cult films like "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "The Thing from Another World," which use the unique instrument to lend a dash of otherworldliness to the viewing experience. But the history of the instrument goes back a little further. A Russian by the name of Leon Theremin invented it in 1919 when he was just 23 years old [source: Mattis]. Theremin demonstrated the device for Lenin and Einstein before coming to the United States and getting a patent for the invention.
The instrument itself is a fascinating oddity that's gained a niche in the offbeat music world. Ready to try your hand at the theremin? Luthiers Around the World. ATLAS of Plucked Instruments - about. Hello dear visitor, Why this website ?
This website aims to add to the free knowledge base that the Web should be. When I was looking for information about my many plucked stringed instruments, I found on the internet many sites showing either lots of musical instruments in general (but with only a few plucked ones), or just with a limited number of instruments, or only with a few special instruments.
So I decided to try to make one encyclopedia website to incorporate all plucked stringed instruments (plucked chordophones), that is : of the lute, guitar, banjo and mandolin type (no harps or zithers). As I wanted to limit this website to just a picture plus a short description of each instrument (like in a bird book), I have often given a link to some specialist site, where you can find more detailed information about that particular type of instrument. So in general : ATLAS is an effort to make the Web a general source of cultural and peaceful knowledge. top Sources of information. Experimental Musical Instruments Gallery.
