Paris Blues. Paris Blues (1961) is an American feature film made on location in Paris, starring Sidney Poitier as expatriate jazz musician Eddie Cook, and Paul Newman as trombone-playing Ram Bowen.[1][2] The two men romance two vacationing American tourists, Connie Lampson (Diahann Carroll) and Lillian Corning (Joanne Woodward) respectively.
The film also deals with American racism of the time contrasted with Paris's kinder treatment of African Americans. The film was based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Harold Flender.[3] Plot[edit] On his way to see Wild Man Moore (Louis Armstrong) at the train station, Ram Bowen (Paul Newman), a jazz musician, encounters Connie Lampson, (Diahann Carroll), a newly arrived tourist, and invites her to see him perform that night at Club 33.
Connie isn't interested but her friend, Lillian (Joanne Woodward) insists they go to see him. Over the following weeks the couples grow closer. New stars emerge in Qawwali music dynasty in Pakistan. Qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's family has been bound to the shrine of Baba Farid Ganj Shakar for the past 800 years.
The family legend is that the Sufi saint blessed them with their heritage where generation after generation will perform the mystical music. Every emerging Qawwal is duty bound to perform first at the shrine before launching a world career. And two young boys are getting ready to follow in the family footsteps. Brothers Kaif, 12, and Saif Ali Miandad Khan, 13, started to learn Qawwali music as soon as they could talk.
Their years of intensive training has been building up to one point - performing at the shrine for the first time. Their mother Shumaila nervously taps her fingers in tune with the tempo as the brothers practice vocals alongside their father. "We left everything behind, our lives in Karachi so my sons could do their sacred duty and perform here," she says. Ancient rite Qawwali music is the words of Sufi saints set to music. Spain[edit] Cuba[edit] In Cuba, the bolero is perhaps the first great Cuban musical and vocal synthesis to win universal recognition.[6] In 2/4 time, this dance music spread to other countries, leaving behind what Ed Morales has called the "most popular lyric tradition in Latin America".[4] The Cuban bolero tradition originated in Santiago de Cuba in the last quarter of the 19th century;[7] it does not owe its origin to the Spanish music and song of the same name.[8] In the 19th century there grew up in Santiago de Cuba a group of itinerant musicians who moved around earning their living by singing and playing the guitar.
Bolero fusions[edit] José Loyola comments that the frequent fusions of the bolero with other Cuban rhythms is one of the reasons it has been so fertile for such a long period of time: OMC — How Bizarre — Listen and discover music at Last.fm. This article is about the English musicians The Yardbirds.
For the album The Yardbirds, see Roger the Engineer. The bulk of the band's most successful self-written songs came from Relf, McCarty and bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith, who, with rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja, constituted the core of the group. The band reformed in the 1990s, featuring McCarty, Dreja and new members. The Yardbirds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.[9] They were included in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time", and VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".[10][11] History[edit] Beginnings[edit] The group formed in the south-west London suburbs in 1963. Original lead guitarist Topham left and was replaced by Eric Clapton in October 1963. John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers are a pioneering English blues band, led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist John Mayall, OBE.
Mayall used the band name between 1963 and 1967, but then dropped it for some fifteen years. However, in 1982 a 'Return of the Bluesbreakers' was announced and the name was in use until the band again dissolved in 2008, to be resurrected again in 2009. The name has become generic, without a clear distinction which recordings are to be credited just to the leader, or to leader and his band. The Bluesbreakers have included musicians such as: Manfred Mann. History[edit] Beginnings (1962–1963)[edit] After changing their name to Manfred Mann at the behest of their label's producer John Burgess, the group signed with His Master's Voice in March 1963 and began their recorded output that July with the slow, bluesy instrumental single "Why Should We Not?
", which they performed on their first appearance on television on a New Year's Eve show.[5] It failed to chart, as did its follow-up (with vocals), "Cock-a-Hoop. "[1] The overdubbed instrumental soloing on woodwinds, vibes, harmonica and second keyboard lent considerable weight to the group's sound and demonstrated the jazz-inspired technical prowess in which they took pride.[4] Dave Clark Five. Dizzy Gillespie. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (/ɡɪˈlɛspi/; October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and singer.[1] Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge[2] but adding layers of harmonic and rhythmic complexity previously unheard in jazz.
His combination of musicianship, showmanship, and wit made him a leading popularizer of the new music called bebop. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality provided some of bebop's most prominent symbols.[1] Long John Baldry. John William "Long John" Baldry (12 January 1941 – 21 July 2005) was an English blues singer and a voice actor.
He sang with many British musicians, with Rod Stewart and Elton John appearing in bands led by Baldry in the 1960s. He enjoyed pop success in the UK where Let the Heartaches Begin reached No. 1 in 1967 and in Australia where his duet with Kathi McDonald You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' reached number two in 1980. Baldry lived in Canada from the late 1970s until his death; there he continued to make records and do voiceover work.
One of his best known roles in voice acting was as Dr. Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. The Jeff Beck Group. The Jeff Beck Group was an English rock band formed in London in January 1967 by former The Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck. Their innovative approach to heavy-sounding blues and rhythm and blues was a major influence on popular music. The first Jeff Beck Group[edit] The first Jeff Beck Group formed in London in early 1967 and included guitarist Jeff Beck, vocalist Rod Stewart, rhythm guitarist Ronnie Wood, with bass players and drummers changing regularly. Early bass players were Jet Harris and Dave Ambrose, with Clem Cattini and Viv Prince trying out on drums. The line-up went through months of personnel changes, notably no fewer than four drummers before settling on Aynsley Dunbar and switching Ron Wood to bass.
Face. The face is a central organ of sense and is also very central in the expression of emotion among humans and among numerous other species. The face is normally found on the anterior (frontal, rostral) surface of the head of animals[citation needed] or humans,[1] although not all animals have faces.[2] The face is crucial for human identity, and damage such as scarring or developmental deformities have effects stretching beyond those of solely physical inconvenience.[1] Structure[edit] The front of the human head is called the face.
It includes several distinct areas,[3] of which the main features are: Soulbook. The album became Stewart's sixth consecutive album to debut in the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200, peaking at #4. It also found success in Canada and the UK, making it to #3 on the Canadian Albums Chart and #9 on the UK Albums Chart. Track listing[edit] Personnel[edit] Time After Time. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Time After Time may refer to: Music[edit] Songs[edit] Albums[edit] Great American Songbook. The Great American Songbook, also known as "American Standards", is the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century. It includes the most popular and enduring songs from the 1920s to the 1950s that were created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film.
They have been recorded and performed by a large number and wide range of singers, instrumental bands, and jazz musicians. The Songbook comprises standards by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin, and also Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Richard Rodgers, and others. [1][2][3][4][5] Although the songs have never gone out of style among traditional and jazz singers and musicians, a renewed popular interest in the Great American Songbook beginning in the 1970s has led a growing number of rock and pop singers to take an interest and issue recordings of them.
