RepRap reader bundle. I have created a Google Bundle for RepRap related sites.

RepRap reader bundle

This is a little different than the existing Yahoo Pipe. -It leaves all the individual feeds separate in Google Reader. This is handy for me because it allows Google to automatically translate the content. Also this would allow you to unsubscribe to individual feeds in the bundle, while still having new members of the bundle automatically added to your reader. 3D-printed miniaturised fluidic devices. 3D-printed miniaturised fluidic devices

Image credit: Geoffrey J T Cooper/Lee Cronin/University of Glasgow UK scientists have developed 3D printing technology for making miniaturised fluidic reactionware devices that can be used for chemical syntheses, in just a few hours. Having recently built a 3D printer in his laboratory, Leroy Cronin and his colleagues from the University of Glasgow have now shown that intricate micro- and milli-scale reactionware can be printed. This technology offers scientists the freedom to design bespoke reactors using low cost materials, with a quick production turn-around.

Initial design to a functional reactor is completed within a matter of hours and chemical reactions using the device can be completed in the same day. Cronin believes that the scope for 3D-printed milli-devices is huge and the team is currently working towards expanding the versatility of the devices.

An ORDbot Quantum 3D printer. 3D printing or additive manufacturing[1] is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an additive process, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes.[2] 3D printing is also considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling (subtractive processes).

Additive manufacturing

A 3D printer is a limited type of industrial robot that is capable of carrying out an additive process under computer control. The 3D printing technology is used for both prototyping and distributed manufacturing with applications in architecture, construction (AEC), industrial design, automotive, aerospace, military, engineering, dental and medical industries, biotech (human tissue replacement), fashion, footwear, jewelry, eyewear, education, geographic information systems, food, and many other fields. 3D printing. 3D printing cuneiform tablets. Published on May 25th, 2011 | by Sevaan Franks Researchers have come up with a cool use for 3D printing technology – making duplicates of ancient cuneiform tablets.

Tablets can be copied using latex molds, but this runs the risk of damaging the original, Owen said. The most important recent technological development in the field was digital photography; this allowed millions of ancient artifacts to become instantly available to scholars everywhere. But it is nothing like the real thing. “With a photograph you can see a lot and that’s great, but oftentimes you can read even more if you can actually hold the tablet because of the angle of the light — how it hits the signs can help you see it better,” added Alexandra Kleinerman ’03, a postdoctoral associate working with Owen. Interactive Fabrication » Fabricate Yourself. Fabricate Yourself is a project that documented the Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction Conference.

Interactive Fabrication » Fabricate Yourself

Usually we think of documentation in terms of text, photography and video, but given the tangible theme of the conference we decided to engage the community by capturing and fabricating small 3D models of attendees. This enabled us to build a tangible model of the event and fabricate it piece by piece during the conference. Attendees firstly capture their favorite pose using a Microsoft Kinect.

The depth image from the Kinect is processed into a mesh and displayed onscreen in real-time. At any time they can capture the mesh and save it as an STL file. Dovetail joints are automatically added to the side of the models so they can be snapped together. Optomec - Printed Electronics and Laser Additive Manufacturing Systems.
