In 2013, she graduated with honors in Jewellery Design BA at Central Saint Martins in London, the same year that she founded her own brand and studio in Milan. She presented her first collection, No Rice, No Life in 10 Corso Como during Milan Fashion Week in September 2014. Bea’s inspiration stems from her fascination with East Asia and by the personal experiences she had while visiting these regions. Wearable By Design. A Sciacca, in Sicilia, i gioielli di corallo rilanciano un'arte antica e l'economia del territorio. Ci sono gemme che non si estraggono scavando montagne, ma scendendo nel mare.
È il caso del corallo di Sciacca, scoperto fortuitamente da alcuni pescatori nel 1875 sui fondali al largo della città siciliana: un corallo fossile, cresciuto sull'isola vulcanica Ferdinandea che emerse nel 1831 per poi tornare sott'acqua appena un anno dopo. Un corallo della famiglia del “corallium rubrum” mediterraneo, ma al quale l'azione dei fanghi vulcanici ha donato sfumature inedite, dall'arancione intenso al salmone, fino ad arrivare al nero con chiazze di giallo. Alla fine dell'Ottocento si scatenò una sorta di febbre del corallo a Sciacca, e il prezioso materiale venne depredato. Ma nel 2012, proprio a Sciacca, cinque aziende specializzate nella lavorazione di questa gemma del mare si sono riunite in un consorzio per preservarne l'identità e la storia. © Riproduzione riservata.
