One of the suspects was likely injured during the robbery during a fight for a gun, according to a police department news release. The suspects broke into a home in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Ave. at about 9:40 p.m. and held the victims at gunpoint. A fight over a guns broke out between the marijuana owner and one of the suspects. During the struggle, a shot was fired and the occupants of the home told police they believe one of the suspects was injured. Feds Approve Truce in War on Medical Marijuana. Earlier today, Congress passed a $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill, and in the process it approved a provision promising to keep federal law enforcement’s hands off of state-legal medical marijuana operations.
How big of a deal is this? Media interpretations are mixed. In the L.A. Times, reporter Evan Halper says the provision “effectively ends the federal government’s prohibition on medical marijuana and signals a major shift in drug policy.” Halper quotes Bill Piper, a lobbyist with the Drug Policy Alliance, who boldly declares, “The war on medical marijuana is over.”
But as previously reported, the provision, known as the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment, was first approved in December of last year. The Oregon Legislature is mulling a plan to let medical-marijuana dispensaries temporarily sell pot to all adults as soon as recreational weed becomes legal July 1.
The idea by Sen. Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day) could solve the problem of where to buy recreational weed while the Oregon Liquor Control Commission licenses recreational growers and stores. OLCC chairman Rob Patridge has said the licensing process probably won't be finished until late 2016—more than a year after recreational weed is legal to possess. A third suspect in a Feb. 19 armed robbery at a Centralia marijuana grow operation was charged in Lewis County Superior Court Monday. Hennessy Royal Turner White, 22, of Portland, was charged Monday with first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday.
