Universities and medical schools in particular, are increasingly asking for evidence that students have experience in the field for which they are applying and a couple of days’ work experience is no longer sufficient.
We encourage students to spend some time with us, working alongside ward staff, helping with routine ward work and getting to know how the hospital staff work together. The programme is for students aged 16-18 who are working towards a career in medicine or adult nursing; and for people over 16 who are considering a career in midwifery. Our aim is to show the reality of life in a busy NHS acute hospital.
Students spend time talking to patients, helping with meal service, making beds and running errands.
