COMMUNITY - Ross' USB Mouse. Paper Circuitry at Home: Electric Origami. This little LED-lit cube is much more than just a paper lantern: It’s a translucent and flexible thin-film electronic circuit that hooks up a battery to an LED, limber enough to be folded into an origami box. And the coolest thing about circuits like these? You can make them at home. In what follows, we combine basic electronics (an LED Throwie) and papercraft (a traditional origami balloon) to make what might be called an “LED Foldie.” The circuitry consists of aluminum foil traces, ironed onto adhesive paper such as freezer paper, photo mounting paper, or even a laser printed pattern.
Something constructed this way can then be folded so fit an LED and battery to complete the circuit. Besides the throwies themselves, this was inspired in part by the beautiful LED Floaties [via Make]. The first step in designing a three-dimensional circuit like this is to see where the parts go. To get started, we first folded an origami balloon, and then inserted the components where we wanted them.

Building a Glitterhouse - Howard's How-To's, from Littleglitterhouses.com. Note from Editor: Howard Lamey, in Jacksonville, Florida, has retired from a full-time job in advertising that included designing window displays for a major retailer.
Now he has turned those artistic talents to designing and building vintage-style cardboard buildings for his family and friends. Howard is building his own site, but he has graciously agreed to share some of his craft knowledge with our readers. Also, you should know that most collectors and builders of vintage pasteboard houses call them "putz" houses because they were often used in "putzes," the German-American term for Christmas villages of the 1930's-1950's. If most of this information is new to you, you can read up on these classic cardboard Christmas communities in the Big Indoor Trains "What is a Glitterhouse? " What You Will Need If you are going to build vintage-style cardboard houses, stop throwing away used, clean cardboard yesterday. January 3, 2013 AT 12:04 am Samantha Moore writes: I am a huge fan of entomology displays, and wanted to create one that is interactive.
When the copper tape on the surface of the frame is touched, the butterflies illuminate through a capacitive touch sensor. The blank white strip of paper to the side of each butterfly shows the name, scientific and common, for a bit of unexpected learning.I created a box frame that is deep enough to house the paper butterflies along with the Arduino and breadboard. I would liked to have made a larger version with a ton of insects but three ended up being a challenge in itself.
