Her book, sadly, now out-of-print...has transformed our family's Christmas celebrations for the past several year. This unit is inspired by her book and my own family's love for music. While this unit is a study of 15 Christmas carols and hymns, it is intended to be flexible enough for every family's holiday schedule. In addition to supplies needed with each specific activities, you will need copies of the words--and, if possible, the music to the following Christmas carols and hymns. My children enjoyed our reading of the Ansterburgs and how they lived in upstairs of the barn. They enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with Katrina and Josie their daughters. Below are some neat activities you may love to do with your children. ACTIVITIES:Make an Apple Pie- Make two pies and share one - this can be shared with a grandparent, neighbor, or someone who needs some uplifting. Learn how to make Apple Butter - this is very simple to do and so good. They ate Apple Fritters in the book - why not try to make some healthy Apple Pancakes. Make some clove apples like they did in the story. Have you ever made applehead dolls? Read a good book on Johnny Appleseed. Make a cardboard box barn with the house above just like Katrina lived in.
