Every Crafty Endeavor. After squinting my way through the Bahamas, I was lucky enough to receive a Kindle Paperwhite, which officially makes me a part of the cool kids club in my mind.

The only thing missing from my new found sense of reading ease and relaxed fingers (you know what I’m talking about, the cramping fingers from trying to shield the sun with your book from the pool chair!) , was a cool cover for it. After not finding one that’s quite “me”, I decided to make myself one and I thought you might find this DIY Kindle or tablet cover good for gifting, too! To make the full travel theme complete, I also styled it with some of my favorite vacation goodies to give you some more stocking stuffer ideas to go along with it just in case you’re planning to surprise a special someone with a Kindle gift package for Christmas.

And yes, yes I do read work related books (this is my current read) on vacation, so judge me as you will. This post is made possible by Amazon Kindle. Girl Loves Glam. Not Just a Housewife. Practically Functional. Stitched by Crystal. I guess I have been in a bit of a crafting rut since the holidays.

My sister came to my rescue the other day and gave me just the kick in the butt I needed to get crafting again! She recently got a new laptop and a Kindle and wanted cases for them. Today I made her a case for her Kindle. Want to make a Kindle case? This pattern would really work for any small electronic and I will show you how to take measurements! This Kindle is about 14" one way and 10" the other. Next cut out your fabric using your measurements, you will need two 6.5"x 8.5" rectangles of both your lining and your outer fabric. Next I used a basting spray to hold my batting to my outer fabric while I sewed, if you don't have a basting spray, you can use a basting stitch around the two sides and the bottom or just use pins to keep it in place. Because I cut the batting a bit shorter, I have .5" across the top with no batting. Fold one side in half to determine where your elastic will go. Very Shannon.

It was my lovely pal mandy's (of sugar & candy handbags) birthday a few weeks ago and i knew i wanted to spoil her. i posted the business card holder i made her but i also made her another pressie - a handmade tablet case for her new tablet. woot woot!

Very Shannon

Mandy is a whiz when it comes to making her gorgeous handbags for her business so i knew i wanted this tablet case to have a purse like feel to it. a mandy vibe so to speak. i even named it after her. her maiden name is greyling - thus the "greyling tablet case tutorial" was born. mandy has a great eye and a flare for prints and i knew she had been eying my pat bravo stash of summerlove for art gallery fabrics. i used "naivety berry" for the upper curved portion (the faux flap) and "beyond bliss ginger" for the main body print. the tablet case has a tab closure that buttons on the front with a curved faux flap. it's interfaced and padded so it will keep those trusty tablets safe and cozy :)

While They Snooze

I'm going on a cruise. Like going tomorrow. I know, crazy. It's the kids' spring break and I've been in laundry and packing mode all day. Flip flops, bathing suits, shorts, sun block– all packed. I think she's finally hit that point where it's not work to read anymore and she's discovered that books can be funny, scary, happy, exciting... everything a movie can be.
