Berton House Writers’ Retreat In addition to offering a unique escape from intruding distractions on a writer’s day, Berton House is also an historical destination with special roots in Canadian history as Pierre Berton's childhood home. Professional Canadian writers who have published at least one book and are established in any creative literary discipline (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, play/screenwriting, journalism) may apply for a three-month residency. We are now accepting applications for the 2016-17 period. Writers-In-Residence Toronto writer Emily Pohl-Weary is currently spending the summer as our Berton House writer-in-residence. The fellowship provides living and working space to a writer in search of a quiet setting to complete a project of literary or academic merit.
