Michelle's TMJ Journey. Welcome to my blog!
I’m Michelle, and I’ve been suffering from chronic TMJD for the last 4 years of my life. I’ve tried many different conservative treatment options (muscle relaxants, a bite splint to wear at night, cortisone shots, etc.) and none of them have had any permanent relief. Last year I was referred to a wonderful dentist that specialized in TMJ relief. She looked over an MRI I had over a year before, and told my parents and me the bad news – that the cartilage discs on both sides of my jaw were dislocated. The right side came back into position, but the left was permanently dislocated, and the only way to fix it was surgery. My initial reaction to this was absolutely no way would I have jaw surgery. We went to meet with a surgeon in the Chicago area who has done many of these surgeries, and he explained that there were a few options that we could take.

Hi everyone, For those out there who are thinking about whether or not this surgery is the right idea for you, here is my before-and-after comparison.
