Free Volunteer Resources Center. - OpenMind Community. We welcome all volunteers regardless of age or background. Everyone has something to contribute, and we'll find the right project for you! We believe in learning by doing. Our volunteers find ways of getting children away from their desks and teach English in practical situations. Joining our free language and cross-culture training for volunteers - led by local trainees - allows you to make a highly valuable contribution to local projects. Volunteers' skills and experience are greatly valued by the conservation projects we support, including pioneering ecotourism schemes.

We charge very low volunteer fees and a lack of admin costs means all our resources go directly to the projects we support. Volunteer work in Cambodia - Cambodia country information. Cambodia, formerly known as Kampuchea, is a country in Southeast Asia bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Cambodia's population of about 14 million is made up almost entirely of ethnic Khmers, though there are also ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese, and hill tribe peoples. Cambodia's population and geography have been heavily influenced by the Mekong River and by Tonlé Sap, a large freshwater lake which is of great importance to Cambodia's people and agriculture. Cambodia is a country that conjures different thoughts in different people's minds. Some people think of the amazing temples of Angkor Wat, while others think of the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge. Indeed, Cambodia has had a long, often troubled history. Ever since the fall of the Khmer Empire in the 1400s Cambodia has faced attacks, colonization, heavy carpet bombing by the US in the early 1970s, and the reign of terror carried out by the Khmer Rouge beginning in 1975.
