One approach with unfamiliar equipment is to ask a couple of students to set up an experiment or demonstration in advance, so that they can then demonstrate it to the class (under your guidance, of course). A measurement tells you about a property of something you are investigating, giving it a number and a unit. Measurements are always made using an instrument of some kind. The static situation is certainly interesting enough, but when it comes to flux, what we really care about is the time rate of change. Let's walk through these equations again, but with a time-varying twist. This changing magnetic field is then captured by the very solenoid that created it. Rearranging things a bit gives us this equation… which may not look like much, until you realize that the terms in the first fraction are largely determined by the geometry of the solenoid.
