Graves’ value theory. Graves and Maslow MindSonar uses the ‘Graves drives’ to measure what someone finds important.
Graves was a professor of Psychology in the sixties and seventies at Union College in New York, the same university where Maslow also taught at the time. Maslow was developing his motivation theory (Maslow’s pyramid of needs), which shows the developmental stages of individual needs. The highest level of Maslow’s hierarchy, ‘self-actualization’, fit right in with the prevailing views of the seventies, and Maslow’s motivation theory was well-respected. In Graves’ opinion this model did not offer a broad enough base for understanding man as a bio-psycho-social-cultural being. He assumed that human behaviour was not determined by individual needs alone, but by a combination of social, biological and psychological factors. Waves of Development, Collage by Steve Self.

Don Beck worked exclusively within a Value Systems or Gravesian perspective, based on the original work of the late Professor Clare W. Graves. Beck first met Graves in l975 and they became close friends and professional colleagues until his death in l986. Together they designed the South African strategy that is represented in the book Beck wrote (with Graham Linscott) in l991, titled The Crucible: Forging South Africa’s Future . In the late l970s and throughout the l980s, Beck was instrumental in exposing Professor Graves to a wider world by arranging joint presentations before meetings of the World Future Society and American Society for Training and Development. Spirale Dynamique. Spiral Dynamics by Clare W.Graves - All about economics on the web. Spiral dynamics is based upon the theory of psychology professor Clare W.Graves.
It is based upon human development that was introduced in the book Spiral dynamics in 1996.It is basically a framework that helps us to understand human systems and development. It states that human nature is neither static nor finite. When humans are forced by life conditions to cope up with their environment then they create new and complex models of the world which help them to handle the problems. Human nature follows a path development from one state of equilibrium to another.
