Project SEARCH - a model for supported internships. Supported Internship Programme Hammersmith and Fulham. Supported Internships are focused on young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) aged between 16 and 25 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
The Supported Internship enables young people with SEND to enrol at a College and undertake one day a week in learning (literacy and numeracy appropriate to the young person) whilst undertaking (in this instance) four days a week with an employer. London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, in partnership with L'Oréal, have supported nine young people on the Supported Internship in 2016/2017. Young people have worked in roles in Human Resources, Information Technology, Reception; Catering; Cleaning; Post Room; Mayor's Parlour and L'Oréal Academy, with one young person accessing a paid job with L'Oréal and another young person to be employed within the Council's HR Team imminently.
In 2017/2018, the Council has supported twelve young people on the Internship Programme. Supported internships Great Ormond Street Hospital. 15 December 2016 City and Islington College has successfully developed an exciting supported internship programme in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital, Camden Local Authority and Project Search.
The internship programme at City and Islington College's Centre for Health, Social and Child Care offers the interns a fantastic opportunity to gain employability skills and knowledge and progress into paid employment. The programme was based at Marlborough Building and is now based at GOSH. Students have the opportunity to work in portering, retail and catering and will have the opportunity later in the year to work on the wards. St George's Healthcare. St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has partnered with Cricket Green School and Action on Disability to give young adults with learning difficulties the chance to gain valuable work experience, in a programme called Project SEARCH.
Project SEARCH is an international training programme aimed at supporting young people with learning disabilities into paid employment, running at 30+ sites across the UK. What is it all about? The Project SEARCH programme is a nine month long training and employment opportunity for adults aged 18-24 with a learning disability, which takes place entirely at the St George’s Hospital site. Project SEARCH. There are 11.6 million disabled people in the UK alone*.
That equates to a fifth of the UK population. Working age adults (16-64 year olds) account for around half of this figure but sadly a significant proportion of this population are unemployed. As one of the largest companies in the UK, and a healthcare company at that, we feel very strongly about this issue and are committed to doing what we can to bridge this employment gap. Project SEARCH now open to applications for 2018 Project SEARCH is looking for young people with learning disabilities, between the ages of 17-24, who want to increase their employability skills. For those people who will benefit, a supporting work related learning and four days in the workplace. This differs from Work Experience as the interns will be treated as members of staff with the aim of securing a paid job at the end. The work placements are sourced after carrying out vocational profiles with the interns to ensure they match their skills and areas of interest. We have an experienced team of 'Job Coaches' who provide support, advocacy and guidance throughout the Supported Internship Programme to our young people and to the employer.

Tees, Esk & Wear Valley Project Choice. Project Choice supports young people to achieve sustainable paid employment by equipping them with the skills they need for work, through learning in the workplace.
As a Trust we are supporting Project Choice by providing a number of 12 week unpaid placements for up to 15 interns. To date interns have carried out a number of roles such as meeting and greeting, administration, data input and gardening and maintenance, across a range of Trust services, including estates, hospitality services, HR, training and education, IT, forensic services and learning disabilities services.
