REUTERS Photo A tanker delivered a cargo of disputed crude oil from Iraqi Kurdistan’s new pipeline for the first time in Israel, despite threats by Baghdad to take legal action against any buyer. The SCF Altai tanker arrived at Israel’s Ashkelon port early on June 20 morning, ship tracking and industry sources said. By the evening, the tanker began unloading the Kurdish oil, a source at the port said. The Kurdistan Regional Government said on June 21, a day after the news was first reported, it did not deal with Israel in the sale.
“The KRG categorically refutes the claim that it has sold oil to Israel,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Natural Resources said in an e-mail. The spokesman did not comment on questions asking who the KRG had sold the oil to, or how crude oil from Iraqi Kurdistan had been delivered to Israel. The SCF Altai did not arrive directly from Ceyhan. Supreme Leader Opposes Any US Intervention in Iraq. Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei opposed any US in Iraq, blaming the western powers for the currrent crisis, FARS news agency reported.
"In Iraq's issue, the hegemonic western powers, specially the US, are seeking to misuse the ignorance and bias of a number of elements with no decision-making power," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Iran's Judiciary Chief Sadeq Amoli Larijani and other high-ranking Judiciary officials in Tehran on Sunday. The Leader stressed that the enemies aim to deprive the Iraqi nation of their achievements gained after the US forces' withdrawal from the country, the most important of which, he said, has been a democratic system.
