Our Priority We envision a world where all caregivers have the skills they need to prepare healthy, low-cost meals for their families.
We work toward this vision by providing education programming to families, mobilizing a network of community partners, and working to engage and influence key stakeholders on the value of food skills education--practical education for individuals to purchase and prepare foods that meet their nutrition, budget, and personal needs. The combined impact of these strategies empowers families with the skills they need to build lifelong healthy habits for their children, and to help shape the way our society values and prioritizes healthy eating.

The Camden County Library System serves Camden County, New Jersey, which is right outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The library system consists of eight branches dispersed throughout the county. The Camden County Library System seeks to meet the recreational, informational and educational needs of its customers. In 2016, the Camden County Library System introduced a Books and Cooks initiative that was designed to promote food literacy and healthy eating habits, particularly in communities such as Camden [City], NJ that are considered ‘food deserts’ by the US Department of Agriculture. The initiative includes food literacy classes and related programming at all of our branches, a mobile kitchen unit that is dispatched to the branches to enrich food literacy programming with cooking demonstrations, and an extensive book collection with relevant titles for library patrons of all ages.

In Mumbai, a medium Domino’s pizza runs 13 bucks—about three times what Anchal’s father earns in a day.
