I struggled for decades with an erratic sleeping schedule.
I thought that my irregular ‘body clock’ was dooming me to a life of falling to sleep at 2-3am, waking up 5-6 hours later, feeling numb and defeated before the day even begun. Even on weekends, sleeping in until 1-2pm, I rarely ever felt like I was getting ‘sound sleep’. About a year ago, my friend introduced me to the concept of ‘low blue light’, which is based on the connection between blue light and the sleep-regulating hormone melatonin.
The core idea is that exposure to sky blue part of the light spectrum suppresses the production of melatonin, which then interrupts the body’s cycle of tired->sleep->alert. Constant, night-time exposure to the sky blue part of the light spectrum (eg. from a computer screen or from most ordinary, white lights) tells the body it is constantly daytime outside. More info: Modify The HC-05 Bluetooth Module Defaults Using AT Commands. UPDATES September 4, 2013: Featured on Hackaday.com September 1, 2013: Featured on DangerousPrototypes.com In this guide, I will explain how to use Arduino to change the settings of the ubiquitous HC-05 Bluetooth module using the AT command set.
The HC-05 comes with a rich set of AT commands to perform various tasks such as changing the module's default settings including changing the pass code, the device name, and the baud rate. But the process of switching the HC-05 into AT command mode for first time users of the module is not straight forward and the docs takes short cuts. ArduDroid: A Simple 2-Way Bluetooth-based Android Controller for Arduino. Nov 19. 2031: OPINION: The Amazing Synergy Between Arduino & Android.
October 30, 2013: Andruino is now officially ARDUDROID and will be available on Google Play shortly. This name change to avoid conflict with another app on Google Play. August 31, 2013: I have published a guide on how to modify the default settings for the HC-05 module. Cheap 2-Way Bluetooth Connection Between Arduino and PC. In the guide, I will explain how I managed to send data back and forth between a PC and Arduino via a cheap Bluetooth HC-05 transceiver, which can be found for less than $10 on ebay with the breakout board.
The version I have used in this project does not have a breakout board so it's little cheaper but more difficult to solder. I strongly recommend buying the module with the breakout board. This Bluetooth transceiver basically acts as a generic serial COM port. The PC to Arduino Bluetooth serial connection can be useful in many applications such as controlling servos, motors, and writing to LCDs. The Arduino to PC connection can be useful in applications where the Arduino reads sensors then pass their values via serial Bluetooth to a PC for processing. Weather station (Underground) with Netduino. I am using a Netdunio-Plus board (Physically looks like Arduino but is using C# as programming language) to display current and forecast weather information on VGA screen.
I pull the information from Weather Underground. I recently posted a similar project where an Arduino board was used to show forecast of the weather from Google Weather service. This project is fully automatic, no configuration required, and there several enhancements to the graphical display (and bug fixes). Video. Google Weather on graphical display with Arduino. Talking Arduino Heart Rate Monitor. Arduino temperature web monitor. In this instructable you'll learn how to establish communication between the arduino board (or any microcontroller that suports UART) and the Internet through an android device.
Once you know how to do that you can control a lamp in your bedroom from the other side of the globe, check temperature in your basement, control a robot... well you get the idea - your imagination is the only limitation. Essentially the setup is just an android app running on a mobile and communicating with the arduino via bluetooth. MIT's app inventor allows one to quickly create apps (no coding required) so the mobile can serve as ready made user interface, data-storage device, accelerometer / gyro / GPS / GPRS and Wifi shield all in one.
Android phone used as a GSM shield for arduino. Arduino GSM shield. This is the GSM_shield library documentation: Here is a GSM_shield Library intended for GSM Shield by Futura Elettronica (www.futurashop.it).
This Library is derived from Hwkitchen’s GSM Library and include the NewSoftSerial library to comunicate using the pin 4 (RX) and 5 (TX). You can also use the pin 0 and 1 (RX and TX) but you must disconnect the module to upload the sketch (so it’s not very nice), and you must modify the library. How install the library for Arduino. Sensor + arduino +gsm shield.
Pulse Sensor Plumbob. My final for my class Digital Multimedia we found an instructable we liked and we had to create something similar with our original twist.
On this site I found a gentleman who created his own version of the Sims Plumbob. (below is the link to his instructable) I use to play this game as a little girl & was in LOVE with it. Halloween had just passed but I still wanted to attempt to make something with this shape more 'meaningful' & 'important'. Talking Arduino Heart Rate Monitor. Homebrew Arduino Pulse Monitor (Visualize Your Heartbeat) Movies look cool with those EKG (electrocardiogram), the one that beeps and detects heart activities.
A few months ago, we had to shoot a hospital scene for our school project. We needed an EKG instrument. To keep the movie authentic, we didn't want to fake the readings so we made the next best thing, a pulse monitor. DIY Solar USB Charger - Altoids. If we use two rechargeable AAs that put out a total of 2.4Vs we're going to need a solar panel that is at least 3 - 4Vs just to meet basic levels of charging. The higher the voltage of our solar cell (or cells) the less light we need to charge up our batteries.
Now we're also trying to fit this into an Altoids Tin, so we're limited in space. I have found some great 4V solar cells that perfectly fit into Altoids Tins. They're the same ones I use with my Solar AA Altoids Charger. Sure, a bigger and better solar cell would give us added power, but it wouldn't fit into our tin. Solar Powered 24 Hour Greenhouse. You're probably thinking to yourself "Hey, isn't EVERY greenhouse solar powered?
" To which you'd be correct. The greenhouse I've created is in fact a DOUBLE solar powered greenhouse in that it uses sunlight both day and night to help plants grow. I live in Wisconsin, which is usually rather nice. Unfortunately Winter has been going full blast for months and shows no signs of letting up. For a mammal like myself this kind of weather is annoying but not overly harmful. Autonomous Solar Robot Stage 1. Background: Hi, my name is Ben Rawstron and this is the robot I have been working on, recently in my sophomore (tenth grade) year of high school. I created this project as an "independent study" at my local school here in Waldoboro Maine since I wanted to surpass the limitations of robots I had worked with in the past. Autonomous Greenhouse Factory. (Please keep in mind: This is my first instructable, and my first essay-like thing I ever post online, and my first time coding with arduino) This is my impulsive side when I let go of its leash.
I normally go and do something crazy such as this. I got an idea while browsing through instructables. Solar Powered 24 Hour Greenhouse. Solar USB Charger 2.0. Everyone has USB gadgets. It's pretty much a fact of life. Another fact of life is that these USB gadgets also continually run out of power when you most need them. No need to fear, solar power is here! Ditch those crazy wall adaptors, throw out the laptop, and start making your own solar charger! One of the most popular projects for new Makers is creating their very own Solar USB Charger. Lithium Battery Solar USB/ iPhone/ Arduino Charger. Well thats about it actually. You can now either charge up the battery via the mini USB port on the Charging Circuit or via Solar power. The red status LED on the Charge Controller board means the battery is charging, the blue pops on when the battery is full. Make A Cheap Lithium Battery Pack. How to build a cheap quadcopter. How to Fly an FPV Quadcopter With Goggles. A SK450 Dead Cat Quadcopter to Call Your Own. Before we get started, I just wanted to take the first sentence of this Instructable to let you know that there are no dead cats involved in making the quadcopter described in the forthcoming steps. The reason the title of this Instructable contains the "SK450 Dead Cat" bit is because that is the name of the frame we will use to construct the quadcopter - more on that later. The frame design was inspired by a quadcopter built by Bart Jansen, a Dutch artist, that featured the taxidermied body of his pet cat, Orville, as a major structural component.
How to make a Radial Piston Water Pump. For a project ("Hydro do that? ") at the Glasgow School of Art, our group of students was tasked with designing and manufacturing a water pump. The task was to be a competition betwixt several teams, each taking the name of an aquatic creature. Our designated company was 'Dolphin'. The winners of the competition were to be the group whose pump had the highest efficiency, and the pumps had to be able to pump five liters of water, through a height of 60cm (2 feet) in less that five minutes.
Our research and development led us to find that a piston pump would be the most effective way of pumping water. We made three pump prototypes, to see which would be most effective at pumping water. The piston pump seemed to be the most viable solution to the efficiency problem, and our online research agreed with this, so we decided to build our final design in the form of a piston pump.
