Hippie woman giving a peace sign, Los Angeles, 1969 In January 1967, the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco popularized hippie culture, leading to the Summer of Love on the West Coast of the United States, and the 1969 Woodstock Festival on the East Coast.
Hippies in Mexico, known as jipitecas, formed La Onda and gathered at Avándaro, while in New Zealand, nomadic housetruckers practiced alternative lifestyles and promoted sustainable energy at Nambassa. In the United Kingdom, mobile "peace convoys" of New age travellers made summer pilgrimages to free music festivals at Stonehenge and later (in 1970) to the gigantic Isle of Wight Festival with a crowd of around 400,000 people.[5] In Australia hippies gathered at Nimbin for the 1973 Aquarius Festival and the annual Cannabis Law Reform Rally or MardiGrass. "Piedra Roja Festival", a major hippie event in Chile, was held in 1970.[6] Etymology[edit] History[edit] Origins[edit] A Hippie-painted VW bug.

For more inspirational finds, please visit www.quatrefoildesign.com As much as I love the symmetry of a beautiful Georgian style house, I also find myself myself drawn to interesting and often asymmetrical Tudor and English style houses.
Given the diversity in architectural styles in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, there are quite a few examples to illustrate my fascination with this style! When I think of Tudor style, I immediately think of decorative half timbering - strips of wood framing which form patterns on the masonry. This lovely example of a Tudor style home in Buckhead was taken down to the studs over the past few years, and lovingly put back together. I heard that there was a lot more damage and rot behind the walls than anticipated, so even though it was a renovation, virtually every bit of the house had to be replaced. Warhol's Muse Edie Sedgwick (1943-1971) Edie Sedgwick was a bright social butterfly whose candle of fame burned both briefly and brightly.
Born into a wealthy family of impressive lineage, Edie became a "celebutante" for her beauty, style, wealth and her associations with figures of the 1960s counterculture, most notably Andy Warhol. Edie was introduced to Andy Warhol in 1965. Very much taken with the Boston native, Warhol announced that he was crowning Edie "the queen of The Factory," and commissioned screenplays for her. Wein became his new screenwriter and assistant director, beginning with "Beauty No. 2," which starred Edie and premiered at the Cinematheque on July 17, 1965. "Beauty No. 2" made Edie Sedgwick the leading lady of underground cinema. Although her physical attributes and native charm are compelling even now, I have a lot of trouble dredging up any real respect for someone who created nothing for herself and threw away everything that was given her, in the end, even her life.

The compilation 18 Essential Songs offers a wider selection, but does not include the original version of "Me and Bobby McGee," which makes Greatest Hits the better purchase for those who only want one Janis Joplin disc, even if it isn't definitive. The 1999 CD reissue adds two bonus tracks, "Maybe" and "Mercedes Benz. " Amazon.com Review By Rickey Wright - More than Cheap Thrills or even Pearl, Greatest Hits has helped keep Janis Joplin's short-lived recording career alive for listeners who came along after her 1970 death.
"Me and Bobby McGee" is the biggest draw, of course--it was a posthumous No. 1 single--but the rest is equally exciting.
