Un Certain Regard

It is run at the salle Debussy, parallel to the competition for the Palme d'Or. This section was introduced in 1978 by Gilles Jacob. Each year, it presents a score of films with various types of visions and styles; "original and different" works which seek international recognition. §Main Winners[edit] In 1998, the Prize Un Certain Regard (French: prix un certain regard) was introduced to the section to recognize young talent and to encourage innovative and daring works by presenting one of the films with a grant to aid its distribution in France.[1] Since 2005, the prize consists of €30,000 financed by the Groupama GAN Foundation.[2] * Denotes first win for a country §Complete List of Winners[edit] §References[edit]

Cannes Film Festival. The Cannes International Film Festival (French: Le Festival International du Film de Cannes or just Festival de Cannes) is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the world.

Cannes Film Festival

Founded in 1946, it is one of the most prestigious and publicised film festivals in the world.[1][2][3] The invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. On 1 July 2014, co-founder and former head of French pay-TV operator Canal Plus Pierre Lescure is scheduled to take over as president of the festival.[5] France also hosts its national film awards, the César Awards, which are generally considered to be the French equivalent of the American Academy Awards. §History[edit] In 1955, the Palme d'Or was created, replacing the Grand Prix du Festival which had been given until that year. Grand Prix (Cannes Film Festival) Best Director Award (Cannes Film Festival) The Best Director Award (French: Prix de la mise en scène) is an annual award presented at the Cannes Film Festival for best directing achievements in a feature film screened as part of festival's official selection (i.e. films selected for the competition program which compete for the festival's main prize Palme d'Or).

Best Director Award (Cannes Film Festival)

Awarded by festival's jury, it was first given in 1946. The prize was not awarded on 12 occasions (1947, 1953–54, 1960, 1962–64, 1971, 1973–74, 1977, 1980). In addition, the festival was not held at all in 1948 and 1950, while in 1968 no awards were given as the festival was called off mid-way due to the May 1968 events in France. Also, the jury vote was tied and prize was shared by two directors on six occasions (1955, 1969, 1975, 1983, 2001, and 2002). Jury Prize (Cannes Film Festival) New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion was the president of the Jury for the 2014 festival and oversaw a rare decision, in which the Jury Prize was awarded to two films: Mommy, by Xavier Dolan, and Goodbye to Language, by 83-year-old Jean-Luc Godard.[2]

CE - WHAT IS A WESTERN MOVIE? Westerns are the major defining genre of the American film industry, a nostalgic eulogy to the early days of the expansive, untamed American frontier (the borderline between civilization and the wilderness).

CE - WHAT IS A WESTERN MOVIE?

They are one of the oldest, most enduring and flexible genres and one of the most characteristically American genres in their mythic origins. [The popularity of westerns has waxed and waned over the years. Their most prolific era was in the 1930s to the 1960s, and most recently in the 90s, there was a resurgence of the genre. They appear to be making an invigorating comeback (both on the TV screen and in theatres). Modern movie remakes, such as 3:10 To Yuma (2007) and the Coen Brothers' True Grit (2010) have also paid homage to their mid-20th century predecessors.] See also Filmsite's Greatest Westerns AFI's 10 Top 10 - The Top 10 Western Films See all Greatest Westerns Title Screens.
