EVs and Cold Weather. Are EVs Green? EVs and the Grid. Charging EVs. EV Batteries. Banning ICE Vehicles. Reality Check On The Electric Car. Nearly half of British public say they will never buy an electric car over charging fees. By Paul Homewood Nearly half of the UK public say they will never buy an electric car because of a lack of charging points, according to a new survey.
The cost of EVs is the other major reason why 46 per cent of people say they would not buy one in the future, the survey by Ford Motors has found. The findings highlight the challenge the Government faces as it prepares to bring forward the deadline to phase out new petrol and diesel vehicles, including plug-in hybrid models. Transport Minister Grant Shapps has suggested the date will be brought forward to 2032, but it is under pressure to make it as early as 2030.
Study: Electric Vehicles Driven A Lot Less Than Previously Assumed - Competitive Enterprise Institute. A recently published study finds that electric vehicle (EV) owners drive them considerably less than previously assumed.
This finding, if true, would greatly undercut claims about the practicality of EVs as a replacement for gasoline-powered vehicles. Even more importantly, it would undercut the assumptions about the climate change benefits of EVs that are used to justify the massive subsidies for them. The study, published on February 8 by the National Bureau of Economic Research, is entitled Low Energy: Estimating Electric Vehicle Electricity Use. Would More Electric Vehicles Be Good for the Environment? - Competitive Enterprise Institute.
Executive Summary The environmental advantages of electric vehicles (EVs) over internal combustion engine-powered vehicles are as obvious as the lack of a tailpipe emitting air pollutants and carbon dioxide, but there are environmental disadvantages as well.
These disadvantages would become far more serious should policy makers choose to take EVs beyond their current niche status and make them a major component of America’s 17 million per year new vehicle market. Electric cars are good fun for wealthy virtue signallers, but a dreadful way to save the planet. By Paul Homewood h/t Philip Bratby A dose of reality from Bjorn Lomborg: In a move to burnish Britain’s green credentials, Boris Johnson is to announce a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.
EV subsidies, fantasies and realities – Watts Up With That? Electric vehicles are trendy but not very Earth-friendly, affordable or emission-free Paul Driessen Tesla may be synonymous with electric vehicles right now.
But within a few years, GM, Volvo and many other manufacturers will be making mostly or only EVs, because they’re emission-free, climate-friendly, socially and ecologically responsible, and more affordable every year. Which explains why we need subsidies to persuade people to buy them, and mandates to force people to buy them. President Biden wants all new light/medium-duty vehicles sold by 2035 to be EVs. Plug-in hybrids are a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ By Paul Homewood It is expected that hybrid cars will also be outlawed, along with petrol and diesels, though they may be given five years grace.
The logic is that hybrids still use fossil fuels, albeit with greater fuel efficiency. The BBC have news that they may not even be as efficient as made out: ABC Tests an Electric Vehicle in the Australian Countryside. Guest essay by Eric Worrall Works great, providing you can afford the expense, don’t hit a strong headwind, and enjoy the adventure of exploring country towns while waiting for a recharge.
Electric car put to the test in regional and rural NSWBy Ben Deacon and Rosie KingPosted 6 hours ago, updated 2 hours agoMore than 60 public electric vehicle charging stations are being built this year around regional New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland in a bid to make electric cars a more practical option in regional Australia. But will this be enough to make electric vehicles (EVs) work in the bush? To find out, I hit the highway for a 1,200-kilometre regional road trip in an electric car. In the end, I made it home — just. What can I say – No sale. I could imagine myself one day buying a hybrid, if the cost comes down. But I would miss the convenience of just filling up the tank if I’m in a hurry, or if I forgot to plug in the charger. Like this: Like Loading...

Philosophy imbued through modern education systems. Current and recent former students – and their teachers – demand a perfect world (since they can envision one) and exhibit zero patience (hence the nationwide riots in the U.S.). Hopefully the mad stampede to destroy the West’s ability to use fossil fuels at all will be sidelined by harsh realities of economics, logistics, and resource availability (including a hoped for reticence to rely on child slave labor to satisfy their blood lust). Yet the United Kingdom, formerly a bastion of sanity, has mandated, as part of its drive toward an all-electric society, the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in every home by 2030 and that all new cars and vans be hydrogen or electric vehicles (and not hybrids). And we bet you thought “zero emissions vehicle” ACTUALLY meant zero emissions. Aussies Pull Plug On Zoe! By Paul Homewood The car nobody wants!
Indeed, over the same period, Australians bought two-and-a-half times more Rolls-Royces (158), seven times as many Lamborghinis (457), and 12 times as many Ferraris (818) than Renault Zoe electric cars. In an online briefing with media, Renault Australia executives blamed absent government incentives for the lack of widespread interest in the Zoe, even though it was already one of the cheapest electric cars on sale, priced from $47,490 plus on-road costs. Electric Motors Versus Internal Combustion Engines.
Next time you stand for 90 seconds filling your petrol tank, you might think of the enormity of what is happening, in energy terms. Chemical energy is entering your tank at a rate of typically 17 million Joules/second, or 17 megawatts—equivalent to the energy given off by 17,000 one-bar electric heaters! This large number is the basis of many difficulties, much glossed over in the rush to all-electric cars. In making personal mobility all-electric, two important considerations must be weighed. The first is that electric motors convert electricity to motion three times more efficiently, in energy terms, than the internal-combustion engine does with gasoline.
Back To Reality: Electric Mobility Gets Dose Of Shock Therapy …German, Swiss Post To End Electric Fleet. Electric cars are a hazard on motorways, Government admits. By Paul Homewood The law of unintended consequences and all that! The potential hazards caused by electric cars on British roads are being urgently reviewed by the Government over concerns that the vehicles stop suddenly when they break down and that many cannot be towed. Baroness Vere, a transport minister, said she was "astonished" to discover that electric vehicles tend to "stop very suddenly" when they cease to function, rather than coasting like conventional cars, and that they can take longer to be removed from motorways.
