More critical: did we ever pause to realise that those hands received far less than what we paid for it? A growing chorus of experts points that market separation has long kept consumers isolated from markets. This separation is attributed to four factors, the physical distance between markers and consumers, the time difference between production and consumption, information asymmetry relating to products and market conditions, and financial separation, underscoring the lack of consumers’ purchasing power despite a willingness to fulfill needs.
More recently, Modi (IRMA) and Singh (IIM Calcutta) proposed a fifth factor, capability separation, that bars poor producers or consumers at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) from participating profitably in the market. The unique Khadi ‘Prakritik Paint’ developed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) using cow dung as raw material has been adopted by the state governments of Chhattisgarh and Haryana as a model of sustainable employment.
A total of 31 prakritik (natural) paint manufacturing units – 25 in Chhattisgarh and 6 in Haryana – will be set up by the respective state governments soon, for which technology transfer agreements have been signed with KVIC. Chhattisgarh government signed the MoU with KVIC on November 21, 2021, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
The MoU with the Haryana Government was signed on November 12, 2021. The first prakritik paint unit in Haryana has been set up at Pinjore near Chandigarh where over 6,000 litres of prakritik paint has already been produced. Another five paint manufacturing units will be set up by March 2022. India registers 15% growth in agricultural export in April-October - Rural Marketing. Witnessing a major boost, India registered a significant surge in export of agricultural and processed food products in the April-October period of the current Financial Year, 2021-22, in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, 2020-21.
According to the Quick Estimates released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS), the overall export of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) products witnessed 14.7 per cent growth in terms of USD during April-October 2021 over the same period of the previous year. The overall export of APEDA products increased from USD 10,157 million in April-October 2020 to USD 11,651 million in April-October 2021. This rise in exports has been achieved notwithstanding Covid-19 restrictions. The export of rice, which recorded a positive growth of 10.5 per cent, increased from USD 4,777.35 million in April-October 2020 to USD 5,278.95 million in April-October 2021. The CCEA also approved the continuation of the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA) up to March 2023. The Government of India runs PMGSY to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations of population size over 500 in plain areas and over 250 in North-East and Himalayan states. In selected left-wing extremism blocks, habitations of over 100 population were also to be provided connectivity. Only 2,432 habitations are remaining out of a total of 184,444 habitations. 20,950 Km road length and 1,974 bridges are balance for completion out of the total sanctioned 645,627 Km road length and 7,523 bridges.
India gets first fisheries business incubation centre in Gurugram - Rural Marketing. Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala today inaugurated India’s first-of-its-kind, a dedicated business incubator to be known as LINAC- NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LlFlC) in Gurugram, Haryana, costing Rs. 3.23 crore to nurture fisheries start-ups under real market-led conditions.
Stating that the Centre would serve as a ‘milestone’ in future for the fisheries sector which is being given a big push under the central flagship Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) launched last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rupala said that the incubation unit would provide handholding such as training, converting entrepreneurial ideas into business models and doling out seed money to the new as well as existing business entrepreneurs keen to make big in the segment.

Venkaiah Naidu Sunday emphasised the need to promote agro-based industries in rural areas so as to create employment opportunities for rural youth. Referring to the phenomena of reverse migration from cities to villages during the Covid-19 pandemic, he said that entrepreneurship in agriculture could immensely benefit the Indian economy by creating jobs in areas where they were needed the most. Multi business conglomerate ITC Ltd., has announced its ambitious target for 2035 to certify all of its owned factories and hotels operating in areas of high-water stress to the International Water Stewardship Standard (AWS Standard). Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification is considered as the global benchmark for water stewardship. The international standard acknowledges companies for responsible water use, leading to positive environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts. In 2019, ITC’s Paperboards factory in Tamil Nadu earned the distinction of being the only facility in India to be awarded the AWS Platinum-level certification – the highest level for AWS certification.
