The content created by Generative AI comes in various formats: text, image, code, equation… However, despite this variety, when viewed from the right perspective, a deep unity emerges: it is a development of the user’s original idea, an extension of his thoughts.
The integration of Generative AI into Pearltrees is therefore an extension of what its users already do naturally: creating and organizing content of all types, developing knowledge, and, for teachers in particular, building courses, exercises, and activities, as well as implementing an infinite variety of educational processes with their students.
In its first version, now available in Pearltrees Education, Spirit 1.0 relies on two key aspects: a radical enhancement of content creation, editing, and organization functionalities, and a teaching assistant designed to extend teachers’ texts, images, intentions, and ideas. Integrated into each “pearl”, its contributions are editable, customizable, mixable, and transferable between different pieces of content, collections, users, or teams.
Pearltrees’ Generative AI acts as an assistant capable of grasping the nuances specific to knowledge workers, producing genuinely educational developments, and writing remarkably useful and relevant exercises. However, like any Large Language Model, it does not discern the logical meaning of the sentences or equations it generates. It cannot and should not be considered a reference. Rather than acting as a teacher’s duplicate, Pearltrees’ Generative AI offers time savings and an increase in pedagogical capabilities to serve educators. By leveraging Pearltrees’ organizational, collaborative, and discovery features, along with the granular textbooks and references available, each user can combine human “knowledge” with the “validity” that can reasonably be attributed to algorithms.
Pearltrees’ Language Model itself is composed of various technological components: transformers, classifiers, neural networks, and different rule-based systems. All of these have been either developed or fully controlled by Pearltrees’ teams, without any external dependencies. This ensures that Pearltrees is fully responsible for the service it provides and guarantees each user complete confidentiality and full ownership of their data. Finally, this independence allows Pearltrees’ model to evolve rapidly in an ever-changing technological environment, enabling Pearltrees’ teams to continuously control the nature, scope, and, most importantly, the intended uses of its AI.
