About Cyd Rust Growing up in a family of painters, it was not surprising that I was only nine years old when my Grandmother entered me in my first juried show.
Life as a child was a joyful blend of unrestricted creativity and unconditional love. Art overflowed the small house my grandparents lived in. Artists constantly came and went, and every medium imaginable was held within its walls at some time. In 1994 I moved to Loveland Colorado where I immersed myself in classes at The Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, taking thousands of hours of study from some of the top artists in the world. I found my niche in sculpture, and it wasn’t long before my work was held in numerous private collections, and I had been accepted into juried shows across the United States, including showings at the Palm Springs Desert Museum and the prestigious North American Sculpture Exhibition. Billy Showell - Posted on 12 Jun 2008 Botanical artist Billy Showell describes how she captures these flowers in watercolour The anemone's pretty frilly collars and constantly altering petals make it a most delightful subject for the botanical painter. There was a time when I found anemones too intimidating to paint, but a commission forced me to take up the challenge and now I adore painting them. The predominant reason for this is their stems; the flowers can twist and turn, creating all kinds of composition possibilities. Anemones are also steeped in history and have been depicted in various styles and media by many artists. Draw a simple outline of the flower – I use a sharp HB – and lightly indicate the overall shape. When all the first coats of the petals are dry, remove all the pencil. The shadow mix is a blend of French ultramarine, cadmium yellow pale and cadmium red deep: mix them until you achieve a soft neutral grey.

Walking in high, dewy grass soaks your shoes the same as walking into a stream! With each step you feel your feet getting soggier and soggier. But a cool, dry afternoon with a breeze is wonderful - the perfect time to head out. One thing I didn't count on though, was the number of grasshoppers lurking in the grass. As I walked they leapt out of my way, but occasionally one would leap into me.
While I walked through the tall grass I admired all the early May beauty of the pipeline. Besides grasshoppers, there were many dragonflies zipping around (Four-spotted and others), and butterflies! Daisy and I settled in the sun to draw flowers. One of the most unique ways and most fun ways to get started in visual art is by using watercolor pencils. Here are some fun tips and interesting info about how to get started. When using watercolor pencils with water, use watercolor paper as regular drawing paper will buckle when it’s dampened. The most common approach to watercolor pencil is to loosely color an area then brush water over it to create a wash effect. When applying color in this manner, remember that the wash will look a few shades lighter than the pencils you’re using once they’re diluted by the water.
When it comes to blending watercolor pencils, start with lighter colors first and work towards darker colors. Here are some ideas about creating watercolor effects. Once your coloring is completed, you can stop right there or you can try to use different effects by adding water. A barely damp brush gives a brighter color with pencil line showing. Here are some thoughts about some different watercolor techniques. How to Draw a Sunflower. Flowers in Art - Resources for Artists. Flowers: Charles Rennie Mackintosh by Pamela Robertson Pamela Robertson, an acknowledged authority on Mackintosh, examines the artist's use of plant forms as decorative and formal sources for his designs in architecture, interiors, textiles, and graphics. She shows the ways in which nature provided lifelong inspiration for his work and analyzes his recurring use of the rose, a design motif which held a special significance as a symbol of art, beauty, and love for both Mackintosh and his artist wife, Margaret Macdonald.
In addition, the author looks at Mackintosh's paintings and designs in relation to the work of contemporary symbolists, Japanese floral art, and the European tradition of scientific botanical illustration. Mackintosh's renowned skills as a draftsman are immediately apparent in his flower paintings. Reproduced as well are striking floral-based textile designs of the 1920s, abstractions that placed him at the forefront of Britain's avant-garde movement.
