Topic 4: Movement Analysis - IB. Physical Educ8or: IB SEHS: Biomechanics. Intro to vectors & scalars. Scalars and Vectors. Speed and Velocity. Acceleration. Distance and Displacement. Distance and displacement are two quantities that may seem to mean the same thing yet have distinctly different definitions and meanings. Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position.

To test your understanding of this distinction, consider the motion depicted in the diagram below. A physics teacher walks 4 meters East, 2 meters South, 4 meters West, and finally 2 meters North. Even though the physics teacher has walked a total distance of 12 meters, her displacement is 0 meters. Now consider another example. Use the diagram to determine the resulting displacement and the distance traveled by the skier during these three minutes. As a final example, consider a football coach pacing back and forth along the sidelines.

Physics Of Pole Vaulting

As a kid, I loved the track and field events, and pole vaulting was a fun event to watch. I remember the excitement I felt as I watched the athletes attempt to vault over the bar. Would they clear it or would they knock it down? Little did I understand then the major role that physics plays in making a successful vault. Pole vaulting is an athletics event in which a person uses a long flexible pole as an aid to jump over a bar. (1) SciOnTheFly: Center of Mass Challenge. Biomechanics of the Body Levers. Newtons Laws of Motion

Having a good understanding of Newton’s laws, that can be applied to sporting situations, will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of sports technique. Newton's Laws of Motion. EASY WAYS TO REMEMBER NETWON’S THREE LAWS OF MOTION – milepune. Every one of us knows how SIR ISAAC NEWTON discovered “Law of Gravitation” When an apple fell on his head… Do you know how he discovered the three laws of motion???

EASY WAYS TO REMEMBER NETWON’S THREE LAWS OF MOTION – milepune

Once a cow was walking in his way Einstein gave a kick in his back and made it to move ahead, to his surprise he discovered the first law of motion. First Law. Newton's Laws of Motion Made Easy. Sir Isaac Newton is considered by many to be the father of modern physics.

Newton's Laws of Motion Made Easy

He postulated a number of natural laws, the most famous of which is gravity, when he was supposedly hit in the head by a falling apple. It is his laws of motion, though, that can be confusing for some people. However, once they're broken down, they become relatively easy to understand. Watch Mitchell Starc bowl one of the fastest deliveries ever recorded. Sun, 15 Nov 2015-05:36pm , Perth (Australia) , PTI Australian paceman Mitchell Starc joined an exclusive club with a sizzling delivery on the third day of the second Test against New Zealand at the WACA Ground in Perth on Sunday.

Watch Mitchell Starc bowl one of the fastest deliveries ever recorded

The fourth ball of his 21st over was clocked at 160.4 kilometres per hour (99.7 mph). Only four other fast bowlers have officially been recorded to have bowled at more than 160 kilometres per hour. Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar holds the record with a 161.3 kilometres per hour thunderbolt against England at Newlands in 2003. Australian pair Shaun Tait and Brett Lee were both recorded at 161.1 kilometres per hour. The only other bowler to reach the mark was Australian firebrand Jeff Thomson at 160.6 kilometres per hour. Starc's delivery was a yorker dug out by Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor. Watch the fearsome delivery here. Nike Sport Research - The Art of Science.
