Wedding Blog: S'mores Bar Desserts Today, many brides and grooms are incorporating more of their own personal style into their wedding day. Many couples feel if they are going to spend thousands of dollars on this day, it should be one that they will enjoy and one that is filled with all things that they enjoy. So, when I ran across the idea of having a S’mores Bar during a wedding reception, I immediately fell head over heels in love … It is such a warm, family friendly idea (reminds me of the times spent telling stories around the campfire). photo credit: ellybevents.comPin it You can now see a s’mores bar literally on a bar set in rocks with burners serving as your flame source. photo credit: ellybevents.comPin it photo credit: ellybevents.comPin it There are many variations to the contemporary s’mores bar … whichever display you decide, remember the most important part is offering your guests a fun way to enjoy making their own s’mores. photo credit: 100percentcottam-austin.blogspot.comPin it

mental_floss Blog » The Bizarre Origins of 8 Wedding Traditions If the throngs of crazed customers clutching registry printouts at Crate & Barrel are any indication, wedding season is once again upon us. Before you head off to the next joyous union on your jam-packed calendar, let's take a moment to reflect on the rich history of marriage celebrations and revel in the realization that weddings are, at their core, incredibly bizarre. 1. Technically, today's wedding gowns aren't white. 2. Remember that "Women's Studies" class you considered taking in college? 3. Talk about your runaway brides—the original duty of a "Best Man" was to serve as armed backup for the groom in case he had to resort to kidnapping his intended bride away from disapproving parents. The best man stands guard next to the groom right up through the exchange of vows (and later, outside the newlyweds' bedroom door), just in case anyone should attack or if a non-acquiescent bride should try to make a run for it. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

{ritzy bee blog}: DIY Welcome back from the weekend - we hope it was a great one! We were sure red-y to start our week with these fun details from the fall issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine... We love a good pattern paired with a great illustrated icon Great favor display (would work fantastic at a shower too!) Polka dot + petite pastries = perfection! Rock Candy Wedding Cake Posted June 8, 2011 | 10 Comments I used to love rock candy as a kid. As an adult, I still love it. There’s this sweet little old-fashioned candy shop in my town that offers rock candy sticks in apothecary jars. They even give you a brown candy bag to fill up your candy selections. via here xo, -E.

DIY Projects: Button Brunch! As we wrap up the fun shoot we did with Wedding Chicks, I thought it would be fun to highlight the few DIY projects that happened to create some of the fun details for the tablescape. The button garland was certainly a labor of love, but worth every minute of it. It's hard to envision this garland simply by the photos alone. We ordered lots of various buttons off etsy, and found several others at Michael's. We made several strands of garland with the various colors and shapes of buttons. The 'favors' for this brunch were individual recipe boxes. The table linens were hand made. The floral overlay fit just perfectly, and to add a fun touch, we sewed a cream fringe around the entire border of the linen. Thank you again Amy and the Wedding Chicks!

Wedding Makeup Tip: Better Than Waterproof Mascara I’m going to say this upfront: I have no idea what mascara this bride is wearing. I was on the lookout for some pretty eyelashes and she fit the bill. I tried to find a picture of myself wearing the mascara I’m going to tout (keep reading), but as it turns out, no uber-close-up, lash-centric photos of me exist. I’m not sure why this surprises me. And on to mascara. I don’t know whether any of you have experienced this particular plight, but I was deeply unhappy with my mascara for years. I was introduced to Blinc mascara by a makeup stylist when I was a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding. Of note, if you’re into super-dramatic eyelashes, this probably isn’t for you. On a side note, the lady who did my makeup for the wedding, Sherrie Long, had to schedule us early so she could do Evan Rachel Wood’s makeup for an event. Photos by Kristel Wyman

PEONY LOVE! Happy Monday Guys....hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Let's open the cafe with one of my favorite flowers...Peonies! I love them! I think peonies are one of the most romantic flowers and I adore their sweet fragrance....their "ruffle-like" blooms are so soft and feminine.....truly a top pick for wedding floral.....whether you want to carry a bouquet of them or a single stem, you don't have to do a lot of "arranging" to them, which makes them perfect for a DIY wedding or for your home. A couple of weeks ago, the wonderful folks from FiftyFlowers, sent me the most beautiful Sarah Bernhardt Peonies....in case you didn't know, FiftyFlowers is a great resource for wholesale flowers for DIY weddings and events. So, I created a little "Peony Love" (right in my own back yard) and my girl Katie of Katie Stoops Photography stopped by to capture all the details.
