Ground Zero II | Carloslabs Have you ever wondered what would happen if a nuclear bomb goes off in your city? With Google's Maps framework and a bit of Javascript, you can see the outcome. And it doesn't look good. Now with Nuclear Fallout, Wind and Pressure Just what you need to be safe in these turbulent times: enter the address of that boss, teacher, colleague or loved one; select a weapon and a damage map mode. By clicking repeatedly on "Fallout" you can change the wind direction at the moment of the explosion. Where's the older version? Copy and paste the following to mashup the Ground Zero II script into your own website or blog: A ZIP archive with the source code can be found here. Science Caveat The damage caused by a nuclear explosion is affected by a multitude of variables, and some of these require powerful super-computers to be simulated properly. Fallout shows the possible dispersion of radioactive isotopes after six hours of the explosion, assuming a constant gentle breeze. Project: 200903A
Flame Painter | online paint program Flame Painter Gallery Flame Painter is a unique paint program, it belongs to my 'I am an Artist' experimental project. Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena Slingshot Instructions: (after you've read these, click here to get a bigger picture.) Click and drag the arrow to change the direction of launch of the spaceship. Choose Jupiter's path distance (the shortest distance of the initial launch point from Jupiter's orbital path) and initial speed of the spaceship. RESET: puts Jupiter into ready position at far left START: Jupiter begins moving at its orbital speed SHOOT: launches the spaceship Zoom in or out to see the full orbit of the spaceship! You can also right-click on the movie and zoom in to get a better view of the objects. Note: Jupiter moves through a distance equal to its diameter in about 3 hours. *** This flashlet demonstrates in a semiquantitative way how a properly directed spaceship can pick up energy from a moving planet. Online image and photo editor - Aviary.com's Phoenix As per this blog post from July, we have officially closed the advanced suite of Flash tools (previously located at advanced.aviary.com) in order to focus on our new company direction powering the photo experience in 3rd party apps. While we hoped that everyone would have taken the time to retrieve their files since our notice, we recognize that the message may not have been seen by everyone. Therefore, if you were not able to retrieve all of your files to date, please contact us at support@aviary.com from the email address associated with your account to help retrieve your files. While the tools will remain offline, we may continue to explore new homes in whole or in part, for specific elements of the suite. I would like to make a few recommendations for alternate tools to try: I have a number of thank yous to make, but I'll leave out names because there are so many and I don't want to risk leaving anyone out: Thank you to the dozens of press outlets who covered the advanced suite.
Binder Clips into Office Weapons Wow, if you thought working at your white-collared job, sitting in your well equipped air-conditioned office, thinking that this is probably one of the safest place to be… you may just want to think twice about that. The office is a jungle. Beside having to watch your back against office colleagues who may be wolf in sheep’s clothes, you may just have to watch out for those seemingly utilitarian office supplies, because in conjuncture with other seemingly innocent office supplies, they may just result to be one of the deadliest office weapon yet. Below is an example of our favorite office supplies- binder clips, turned into office weapons. Take a few binder clips of varying sizes, turn them upside down, and clip the smaller binder clips inside the larger clips. It should look like this when the larger binder clips have clipped the smaller ones. Remove all the binder clip handles. Add another 2 larger binder clips on top of the smaller edge with a rubber band in between. stumbleupon

Imaging maths - Inside the Klein bottle September 2003 My first practical experience with a Klein bottle was a failure. When I was still at school I came across a picture of a Klein bottle in a weekly journal. I shared my fascination with a friend who was a glassmaker specializing in physics equipment for schools. A few days later I was a proud owner of a physical Klein bottle, made of glass. What to do with such a bottle? To my delight, this primitive but interesting thermometer did indeed show signs of life during the day. The Klein bottle was discovered in 1882 by Felix Klein [1] and since then has joined the gallery of popular mathematical shapes known to the general public outside the "ivory tower". From the Möbius band to the projective plane The Möbius band is the simplest one-sided surface, and is easy to make out of a strip of paper. The band was discovered in 1858 by the German astronomer and mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius. Despite its simplicity the Möbius band was a genuine mathematical discovery. Felix Klein
