Index to Adaptive Computer Hardware and Software The Blind Readers' Page--Main Menu Last revision: November 12, 2002 This list is intended as a quick-reference index to a wide variety of adaptive computer hardware and software, as well as many other sorts of adaptive equipment for blind or visually handicapped people, including magnifiers and reading machines. It also includes references to retailers and other sources of information about all sorts of adaptive equipment. Given the rapid growth of the field, the Index cannot be comprehensive; it is as up to date as I can make it, but inevitably there will be dead links and some outdated models of equipment. Interactive Video: Turn Viewers Into Participants Interactive video is closer than it may appear. Interactive video depends on breaking the fourth wall. Inherently some viewers will be turned off because they like to just sit back and be presented a story. So before we go deeper, which kind of viewer are you? Don't worry, there's no wrong answer, but if you answered at all, you're probably ready for interactive video. A Web service like engajer (link is external) opens up new possible uses and integration of video. Comedians are the real experts. With video games (possibly one of the earliest media in which good audience control is praised), they're rated for replay-ability, and while the traditionally second viewing of a movie would take place via home video, premieres are coming through smaller, and more portable screens. Among documentary, suspense, fantasy, news, and online, every single category of video looks to engage viewers and keep them engaged.
Are schools preparing our children for the workplaces of the future? Posted Up to 40 per cent of current Australian jobs could disappear within the next 10 to 15 years as robots and computers continue their unstoppable advance. They have already replaced humans in workplaces such as factories, supermarkets and airline check-in counters. Now white-collar professions are under threat. Hugh Durrant-Whyte, director at the Centre for Translational Data Science at the University of Sydney, said technology was taking on middle-class professions once thought safe from automation — professions such as law, accountancy and banking. "We always used to think of automation as moving everybody up," he said. "The big difference now is machine learning and artificial intelligence are solving jobs that we thought traditionally were very highly qualified jobs … it's eating out the middle of the job market, rather than the bottom end." The change is presenting the education system with a real challenge. Can we future-proof the next generation? Future jobs might look like this
