25 User Experience Videos That Are Worth Your Time Advertisement We’re all mostly accustomed to educating ourselves by reading articles. Rare are the opportunities to attend conferences or watch live shows on subjects that we’re interested in. That’s why we are presenting here phenomenal videos and related resources on the topic of user experience (UX) by different presenters at different events. User Experience Videos The State of User ExperienceJesse James Garett, founder of Adaptive Path and author of the book The Elements of User Experience, speaks on what UX and UX design is, what UX looked like before and what are some of the challenges people are encountering now. UX Best PracticesIn this excellent video session, Nick Finck pries open the most popular websites today, including eBay, Amazon, Toyota, Flickr, Twitter and Netflix, to explain user experience best practices. 5 Minutes on Imitation in DesignIn this brilliant short talk, Jeffrey Veen explains what is meant by “Good artists copy, great artist steal.” Bonus videos (al)
The Balsamiq Mockups Manifesto Take a second. Let it sink in. The first impression might be disorienting. There are very few interface elements on the screen. Start exploring however, and you'll find out that Mockups is filled with powerful yet only-visible-when-you-need-them features. Getting your ideas out should be effortless. We've been in business long enough that we think we have learned enough about ourselves, our product, our customers and our competitive space to be able to put a stake in the ground and tell the world what we're about. Our sweet spot: the ideation phase Mockups really shines during the early stages of designing a new interface. Mockups is zenware, meaning that it will help you get "in the zone", and stay there. Mockups offers the same speed and rough feel as sketching with pencil, with the advantage of the digital medium: drag & drop to resize and rearrange elements, make changes without starting over, and your work is clear enough that you'll make sense of them later. Introduction — PyQt 5.3 Reference Guide This is the reference guide for PyQt5 5.3. PyQt5 is a set of Python bindings for v5 of the Qt application framework from Digia. Qt is a set of C++ libraries and development tools that includes platform independent abstractions for graphical user interfaces, networking, threads, regular expressions, SQL databases, SVG, OpenGL, XML, and user and application settings. PyQt5 implements over 620 of these classes as a set of Python modules. PyQt5 supports the Windows, Linux, UNIX, Android, OS X and iOS platforms. PyQt5 does not include Qt itself - you must obtain it separately. The homepage for PyQt5 is PyQt5 is built using the SIP bindings generator. Earlier versions of Qt are supported by PyQt4. License PyQt5 is licensed on all platforms under a commercial license and the GPL v3. PyQt5, unlike Qt, is not available under the LGPL. You can purchase a commercial PyQt5 license here. PyQt5 Components PyQt5 comprises a number of different components.
Wizard of Oz This tool takes the name from the story The Wizard f Oz, more specifically it takes the name from the figure of the character under the curtain. It is a technique derived from the information technology that is used in order to test a product or a service in a detailed way by observing the interaction of a potential user with the object without revealing the evaluator’s presence. L’argument principal J'aime :
10 Effective Video Examples of Paper Prototyping Paper prototyping is a commonly used low cost usability method for testing and evaluating web designs and applications. This method lets developers conduct tests before a single line of code has been written, and allows you to identify and fix any potential issues early on in development. “Paper prototyping is a variation of usability testing where representative users perform realistic tasks by interacting with a paper version of the interface that is manipulated by a person ‘playing computer,’ who doesn’t explain how the interface is intended to work.” In this post we have collected our top 10 videos that not only illustrate how effective paper prototyping can be, they also show you how to cost effectively conduct your own tests and some of the videos have been animated, which are just amazing to view. If you would like to know more about Paper Prototyping, you can try these useful resources: • Paper Prototyping by Shawn Medero (A List Apart) » • What is Paper Prototyping?
Introducing turbo mode: up to 50% more performance for free Since launch, we’ve supported overclocking and overvolting your Raspberry Pi by editing config.txt. Overvolting provided more overclocking headroom, but voided your warranty because we were concerned it would decrease the lifetime of the SoC; we set a sticky bit inside BCM2835 to allow us to spot boards which have been overvolted. We’ve been doing a lot of work to understand the impact of voltage and temperature on lifetime, and are now able to offer a “turbo mode”, which dynamically enables overclock and overvolt under the control of a cpufreq driver, without affecting your warranty. We are happy that the combination of only applying turbo when busy, and limiting turbo when the BCM2835′s internal temperature reaches 85°C, means there will be no measurable reduction in the lifetime of your Raspberry Pi. You can now choose from one of five overclock presets in raspi-config, the highest of which runs the ARM at 1GHz. What does this mean? Previous image (2012-08-16-wheezy-raspbian):
