House of Smiths: Pink Pleated Pillow Tutorial
Okay... so you know how you have an idea, but you're not really quite sure how you're going to execute it... well... THIS was one of those kids of projects. lol. I had this extra material left, from making my shower curtain extension... and wanted to make a pillow, but the form I had was square... and I just had this long piece of pink fabric left... I had seen a pleated pillow in one of my favorite fabric stores a while back, and then also remembered seeing a really cute one on V and Co.
bEING pERFECT iS hARD: Reupholstering Some Shoes
First I got together an old pair of shoes that I wasn't too fond of, a bottle of Sobo fabric glue, a pair of scissors, and about a yard of fabric ( I used fabric from a long dress I had cut into a mini dress ). I wasn't really sure where to start. So I just started cutting random pieces of fabric and then sort of molding them to the shoe (cutting off excess as I went). I slathered the fabric glue straight onto the shoe in some cases, and sometimes onto the fabric, then gently pressed it down onto the shoe. I recommend a busy pattern like this one because you can't even tell that I layered different pieces of fabric almost like a paper mache. I haven't worn these outside anywhere so not really sure yet how well the fabric glue will hold up.

Tsumami Kanzashi Flower Hair Clip
I have recently discovered these beautiful folded flowers, and I absolutely cannot stop making them. Tsumami Kanzashi are traditional Japanese folded flowers, made from small squares of silk, that are typically worn by women as hair ornaments in traditional hairstyles. They seem really complicated and intricate, and they can certainly be that if you really want; but it completely doesn't need to be! I love to make them out of cotton prints that are fun and bright, in addition to scraps of silk and other light fabrics. These can be used in countless applications.

Since the new year has started I’ve been trying to think of ways to be more kind to my self. Especially when that nasty gremlins try to creep in and stump me. I remembered this origami star video on You Tube and had to get them involved in my plan. I thought it would be fun to make a whole bunch with kind words and “you are….” phrases inside. I made 60 of them, enough to last me the whole year if I open one a week, plus a few extra just in case. I used 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper and cut 1/2 x 12″ strips, then followed the video HERE*.
