The Fox Is Black » Connection, A Responsive Light Installation by United Visual Artists I’m a big fan of United Visual Artists, UVA for short, and their work and experimentation with light. One of their most recent projects is called Connection, a “work consists of an array of vertical luminaires integrated into a pedestrian bridge.” What’s interesting about this though is that the lights are triggered by human movement, so what was a pretty banal bridge is now a lively, moving piece of art. I feel like work like this is more interesting than new projects because it’s taking something that’s existing and simply making it better, even if it’s purely aesthetics. If you’re in Toronto, Canada go visit the Maple Leaf Square building, that’s where you’ll find it. Bobby

In most snapshots, pets look stiff, posed and vaguely uncomfortable. Grace Chon, a pet photographer in Los Angeles, has made a business of capturing a pet’s personality in casually artful portraits. She has offered tips that any pet owner can use to immortalize the dog or cat with a mantel-worthy portrait. 1) Let the animal be an animal: Photograph your pet where it likes to hang out, whether it’s the backyard or the foot of the bed. 2) Pay your models: “I try to keep this as fun and engaging for the pets as possible. 3) Get to know them: Animals often find being stared at intimidating — and to them the camera can look like a big unblinking eye. 4) Light lightly: Outdoors, Ms. 5) Be patient: “Animals are so unpredictable. 6) Shoot and repeat: If the pet can be enticed to repeat a photogenic pose, don’t hesitate. 7) Stay focused: Ms. 8) Retouch with a catlike tread: Ms.
How to Photograph Drummers | ishootshows.com As I’ve mentioned before, one of the very first pieces of music photography advice I ever received was simply, “Don’t forget the drummer.” It came not from another photographer, but from a guitarist in a band I’d befriended when I first started shooting concerts. I was hanging out with the band in their dressing room before a gig, and the guitarist was noodling around on his guitar. Without looking up, he casually suggested, “Don’t forget the drummer. Photographers always forget the drummer.” This piece of advice has always stuck with me, and to a certain extent, it’s become a small mantra of mine, as I think it can apply to any kind of situation. Here are 6-tips for how to photograph drummers, one of the most challenging subjects on any stage. Don’t Forget The Drummer As I wrote in my 5 Tips For Better Concert Photography: Nevermind that drummers are often poorly lit and trashing about behind a cage of obtrusive metal. 6-Tips for Photographing Drummers: Explanations below. One quick tip?
