Ubik | All-TIME 100 Novels Welcome to the massive, anguished, exalted undertaking that is the ALL TIME 100 books list. The parameters: English language novels published anywhere in the world since 1923, the year that TIME Magazine began, which, before you ask, means that Ulysses (1922) doesn’t make the cut. In May, Time.com posted a similar list, of 100 movies picked by our film critics, Richard Corliss and Richard Schickel. This one is chosen by me, Richard Lacayo, and my colleague Lev Grossman, whom we sometimes cite as proof that you don’t need to be named Richard to be hired as a critic at TIME, though apparently it helps. Just ask our theater critic, Richard Zoglin. For the books project, Grossman and I each began by drawing up inventories of our nominees. Even so, there are many titles we couldn’t fit here that we’re still anguishing over. This project, which got underway in January, was not just a reading effort. There were also first time discoveries. Lists like this one have two purposes.

Launched on June 27 to coincide with the season premiere of hit Showtime series "Weeds," the "Weeds Social Club" game will let eager fans and pot-curious users buy, plant, and sell different strains of marijuana. In the game, players can visit different locations to buy different kinds of pot, such as "Jamaican Ganja" or "Schwag Weed." Businessweek reports that players will receive game tips from Andy Botwin, a character from the "Weeds" show. "In the social realm, it's a living, breathing experience," Curt Marvis, producer of Weeds, told Businessweek, "one where you get a fan base of engaged users."

Use Instapaper to save articles to your Kindle Calibre, the Kindle-friendly ebook library management program, will let you collect RSS feeds from various sources and get them on your Kindle through email or USB. The web service Kindlefeeder will do the same, and is maybe a little easier to use if you hate dealing with software. But if you find yourself constantly stumbling across long text pieces online that you want to read later away from your computer, you might want to check out Instapaper. And if you’re carrying around a lightweight Kindle, why not start using it to read those pieces? There are actually two free services–Instapaper and Read It Later–that let you save things in this way. You could accomplish nearly the same thing with browser bookmarks, but these services add a little extra functionality: they usually save just the text, not the surrounding framework of ads or menu options, and they provide a single destination where you can browse through and read all of things you’ve saved from all over the web.
