Supermarkets, businesses, and libraries have used bar codes for years because it saves time and is more efficient than typing in the digits. Here's a QR code. Watch this. QR codes are not limited to being just text--they can be hyperlinks. You can find QR codes everywhere. QR codes have been around since 1994. Why the surge in popularity? You know, it's so easy to make a mistake when typing a web address. And what's really great is that there are loads of apps for scanning QR codes that are free.
