Orphaned baby owls Linford and Christie By Nick Enoch Published: 10:54 GMT, 20 March 2012 | Updated: 14:13 GMT, 20 March 2012 It's not the usual thing you'd expect to find in a kitchen - but these orphaned baby owls seemed right at home as they nestled in two cups. The feathered pair were clearly having a hoot after moving into the home of their wildlife park keeper, Jimmy Robinson. The six-week-old burrowing owlets, nicknamed Linford and Christie, were hatched in an incubator, and are now being hand-reared by Jimmy - who works at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire - and are given 24-hour care. Don't worry, owl do the washing-up: The two orphaned baby owls are having a hoot after moving into the home of their Longleat keeper Jimmy Robinson Aha, DVDs... Let's play hide and beak: The owls were hatched at the Hawk Conservancy Trust in Andover, Hampshire, in February He named the birds after the former Olympic gold medallist in honour of this year's Games being held in London (where Linford Christie is coaching some of the athletes).

Goat + Sheep = baby Geep! Sheep-goat hybrid Oreo and his mum at a NSW children's daycare centre. Picture: Gary Graham Source: The Daily Telegraph HALF sheep, half goat? You've got to be kidding. While it sounds bizarre, the genetic fluke is officially known as a "geep". "One of the boys told me the lamb had arrived," Mr Crompton said. "It was dark, and I went into the paddock looking for her mother and she had this little black and white bundle. "We don't get black and white lambs, and as soon as I felt it I knew it didn't have wool, it had hair. "I said its father must be a goat." Proving to be more than just the black sheep of the family, the geep, named Oreo, was born to a sheep but is a genetic throwback from its father - a ram with goat genes. Oreo and her mother, Floss, are among a menagerie of animals on loan to Follyfoot Farm, a pre-school and long day care centre at Fountaindale in New South Wales, from nearby farms. Oreo runs like a goat and has a goat's face and feet but a sheep's build.

Civets Kittens Civets are small, lithe-bodied, mostly arboreal mammals native to the tropics of Africa and Asia. The Owston's Palm Civet is a civet that lives in the forests and wooded lowland river basins of northern Vietnam, northern Laos, and southern China. These beautiful cubs are part of a conservation breeding programme at Newquay Zoo in Cornwall which also directly supports an overseas conservation project in the civets native home of Vietnam. Director of Newquay Zoo, Stewart Muir said “We are delighted that the breeding programme for this endangered species is doing well. It was only four years ago that the first six Owston’s Civets were allowed out of Vietnam to three UK zoo’s to start a breeding programme. We have already had 5 cubs here at Newquay, three of which have moved to other UK zoos.” “The project in Vietnam is called the Small Carnivore Conservation Project based at Cuc Phuong National park and helps protect a variety of leopard cat, binturong (cat bear) and pangolins.
An Unexpected, But Adorable, Rescue of a Baby Squirrel A family was enjoying an afternoon outside when they happened upon a tiny baby squirrel in their back yard. Its tail was wet and it absolutely refused to move from its spot. He was pearched precariously on top of rocks near a small stream - a strange spot for a baby squirrel to favor. Upon closer inspection, they realized that the squirrel wasn't alone! His baby brother was stuck between the rocks he was sitting on. Slowly, and very carefully, they moved the rocks away from the soaking wet, nearly drowning brother of the squirrel that was refusing to move, frightened out of his mind. Seeing how cold, wet and desperate the little guy was is absolutely heartbreaking! Thankfully, he started to perk right up as soon as he was dried off. :) And thanks to the kindness of strangers, these two baby squirrels were reunited!

Striped hyenas bred at Visakhapatnam zoo The New Year has brought in some good news for the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) here which announced the successful captive breeding of striped hyenas — a first in its history. This comes after two consecutive failures, when the two previous litters did not survive. Of the three cubs in the new litter, the zoo authorities could save one male, which is currently being looked after at the zoo hospital after its mother turned hostile. The two-month-old cub has been named Ayush. The birth of the cub holds particular significance, because striped hyena is listed as a ‘Near Threatened’ species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. “Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is the third zoo in the country, after Patna and Mysuru, to have successfully recorded captive breeding of hyenas. The zoo now has two male and one female striped hyenas.

Australian Bat Clinic and Wildlife Trauma Centre director Trish Wimberley and her carers have helped save 130 orphaned bats on the Gold Coast in past weeks. They saved 350 young bats during the 2008 storm season but this year think there's more going on than just wild weather.
