BEST OF MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2016 This in fact leads us to making mention of the pastel toned colour way which kept appearing all about town: all the way from HAY’s multicoloured presentation inside La Pelota - which inspired thoughts of 1950’s-era candy shops - to Patricia Urquiola’s console and mirror from the SHIMMER series she created for Glas Italia. Unsurprisingly, Patricia was a very busy designer this season - to prove our point we must note the incredible CREDENZA collection that she collaborated on with Federico Pepe on for Spazio Pontaccio which was inspired by the stained glass windows of holy sites. Marble seemed to be another trend at this Salone, especially black Marquina marble which appeared in everything from Apparatus Studio’s Portal marble dining table, to the small, Niobe side tables designed by Federica Capitani for Zanotta, not to mention the Mr. Marble jar which was designed by Lorenza Bozzoli exclusively for the 10 by Yatzer collection.

But now, a societal tsunami is underway, changing the way we see motherhood and questioning its primacy in the fabric of our culture. The U.S. birthrate has plunged to unprecedented lows: In the 1970s, 1 in 10 American women were childless.

London Cloth Company Revives The Lost Craft Of Loom Weaving – iGNANT.de From the rescue of a rusting loom in a Welsh barn to 41 tons of machinery weaving endless yards of fabric for export around the globe, the story of the London Cloth Company is a captivating tribute to the hard work, vision and determination of the gregarious Daniel Harris. Accompanied by his cat, Flo Rida, in his workshop – located in an old air force hangar on an industrial estate in Epping, London – Harris spent a chilly but sun-dappled morning introducing us to his world of weaving with the industrial machinery he single-handedly rescued and restored. The London Cloth Co is the city’s first micro-mill. How did it all begin? “I started off with one loom, and now I’ve got 41 tonnes or machinery, at least.

It takes time to get to know a new place, and I’m an eager explorer. So I use as much time as I can running between work and some classes to sniff out places I can call my own. Now, Sir Drake hotel may not be mine, but last week after I had met this model, I needed a petite moment of awe and quiet to get back out there. I opened the big glass doors to this old classic of a hotel and skipped up the stairs to an area that was absolutely empty. I’m sure I should’ve asked to enter, but sometimes I happily live the philosophy that “its easier to be forgiven than ask for permission”, so up the stairs I went.
A beginner's guide to fashion trend forecasting with Geraldine Wharry - Inspired by... blog I recently interviewed fashion forecaster Geraldine Wharry who has worked with and for major brands including trend forecaster WGSN. I asked her about the art of trend forecasting, and what's next for 2013/14. Tell us a little bit about yourself…I've been a fashion designer for 13 years and have always had a strong eye for trends so I naturally evolved into trend forecasting when I moved to London after living in Los Angeles and New York. I was born, raised and studied fashion in Paris but my mother's a New Yorker and my father is British. Living Large in an Eco-Smart Studio Apartment The designers at Liquid Interiors have turned an old and cramped 400-square-foot studio apartment on Hollywood Road in Central, Hong Kong into a comfortable and spacious home filled with eco-friendly features. “We wanted to make the space as big as possible… to create an example of how you can humanise space in city living,” says Rowena Gonzales, CEO of Liquid Interiors – the firm behind the project. To enhance spatial quality, the flat features bespoke furniture that cleverly maximises and conceals storage. Half of the wall that divides the bedroom and the living room is a wardrobe, while the other half is kitchen storage. The wooden platform that elevates the bed provides additional storage space. As Gonzales explains, the design team took “every single inch of the space and used it.”
