Taverna - open source and domain independent Workflow Management System Openstack-based Midostack Lets Companies Scale And Manage Flexible Virtual Networks With Commodity Hardware In July last year, Rackspace caused quite a splash in the cloud computing world when it decided to opensource the software behind its cloud storage and computing platforms to create Openstack, an Iaas-based cloud platform (more on that from the Scobleizer). Fast forward 9 months, and we are seeing over 60 companies worldwide (Dell, Cisco, Intel, NTT Data to name just a few) developing solutions based on Openstack. Tokyo-based Midokura is currently working to solve a hard problem that has barely been tackled before: flexibly virtualizing networks. Midokura’s key technology is called Midonet, a network virtualization platform that creates a control layer on top of the physical network. According to Midokura, Midonet can be deployed on top of any existing IP network. Midokura has started accepting a limited number of people into the beta testing phase (for pilot projects, for example) for Midostack.

Joget Workflow - on SourceForge LONI Pipeline | How To Run A News Site And Newspaper Using WordPress And Google Docs A former colleague of mine, William Davis, understands what a “Web first” workflow is, and has made it happen through software at his newspaper in Maine. The Bangor Daily News announced this week that it completed its full transition to open source blogging software, WordPress. And get this: The workflow integrates seamlessly with InDesign, meaning the paper now has one content management system for both its Web and print operations. The video embedded above is a screencast from Davis, which outlines the new editorial workflow. A truly web-first workflow Reporters and editors compose all stories in Google Docs. “WordPress drives both our website and our print edition – you can’t put an article into the print edition of the paper unless it’s been put into WordPress,” Davis, the online editor of The Bangor Daily News, said. No more copying and pasting, hallelujah! It’s basically free You can do it, too! Davis said that for him, adoption was mostly pain-free. Ready to get started?

To complete the picture, I started comparing all of my information managers – Yojimbo, Evernote, DevonThink Pro and even the good old OS X Finder. In working through that process, I discovered that in addition to Rob’s scripts I needed a few other things. One other thing I needed to adjust is that I get a lot of information via email. I’m still holding out for the super automated task manager.
