Futurlec, The Electronic Components and Semiconductor Superstore HobbyTronics | Texas Instruments TLC 5940 - 16 Channel PWM Driver |COM-10136 TLC 5940 - 16 Channel PWM Driver The TLC5940 is a 16 channel PWM unit with 12 bit duty cycle control (0 - 4095), 6 bit current limit control (0 - 63), and a daisy chainable serial interface. It is handy for expanding the number of PWM outputs available. Features: 16 Channels 12 bit (4096 steps) Grayscale PWM Control Serial Data Interface 30MHz Data Transfer Rate CMOS Level I/O Drive Capability (Constant-Current Sink) 0mA to 60mA (VCC < 3.6V) 0mA to 120mA (VCC > 3.6V) 3V to 5.5V VCC Documents: Arduino Library The Arduino library can (as of r8) drive servos off the PWM channels. When using with RGB LEDs get LEDs with common anode.
Projects The Personal Robots Group focuses on developing the principles, techniques, and technologies for personal robots. Cynthia and her students have developed numerous robotic creatures ranging from robotic flower gardens, to embedding robotic technologies into familiar everyday artifacts (e.g., clothing, lamps, desktop computers), to creating highly expressive humanoids --- including the well-known social robot, Leonardo. Ongoing research includes the development of socially intelligent robot partners that interact with humans in human-centric terms, work with humans as peers, and learn from people as an apprentice. Other projects have explored how HRI can be applied to enhance human behavior as applied to motor learning and cognitive performance. More recent work investigates the impact of long-term HRI applied to communication, quality of life, health, and educational goals. For a list of current projects, click here.
Finding Parts - Hobbyist / Surplus Sites The data on the "Finding Parts" pages is actually all in a Wiki (a webpage that anyone, even you, can edit!) If you have suggestions or ideas for other companies or sources you can post it in the forum but it might be faster and easier to just edit the wiki page yourself! (You'll have to make an account "Not the best, but still a good deal" This is not an exhaustive list, but these are my favorite surplus locations. General Surplus parts and components Dan's Small Parts and Kits A wide variety of transistors, diodes, inductors, caps, crystals, discreet RF devices, standoffs, connectors etc. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories lots of fun kits, cool "BulbDial" clock, awesome 12" and 2.3" 7 segment displays, LEDs, ICs, Servos, Stepper motors, tools, Proto and bread board stuff. Jameco Electronics Lots of parts and you can order a paper catalog. they also have grab bags of lots of commonly used parts(LEDs, resistors, capacitors, 7 segment displays, stand offs and hardware, etc.) Tayda Electronics
CMU Robot Census CMU Robot Census Launched by the new CMU first-year robotics grad students and Robot Census Committee (RCC) August 29, 2010. We’ve passed 500 robots!! Oh my goodness! The original press release on the Robotics Institute website, came with the following description: “Data gathering for the U.S. 2010 Census may be finished, but it has just begun for the Robot Census 2010. The idea occurred to Knight and her fellow first-years after listening to faculty presentations during this term’s grad student immigration course. Knight and her designer friend Chris Becker created a Interactive PDF Form, seeking information regarding the status, year of creation and location of each robot, and distributed it within the Robotics Institute via email.
HVW Technologies: Microcontrollers, Embedded Software, Development Tools and Robotics Gostai Teleportation made real Have you ever dreamt to be able to teleport yourself anywhere with a snap of your fingers? This is exactly what you can do now with Jazz. The principle is simple: Jazz stands in a remote location and will serve as your personal avatar. It can move and perceive its surrounding with its embedded camera, speaker and microphone.
