The Beauty Department: Your Daily Dose of Pretty.
Yesterday I was thinking, we really need a way to show each kind of curl. Not the natural curls that you get from good genes, but the kind you strive for when using your curling iron, wand or even a flat iron. I think this will be helpful moving forward so that when I post hair new tutorials I have a specific post to point to and reference the type curl I’m using to get that hairstyle. In this post, we’re only using a 1″ barrel curling iron because this isn’t about iron size, it’s about curl method and what type of curl each technique produces. Okay, let’s make a “Curl Catalogue”, shall we? This is the kind of wave you find in our EVERYDAY WAVES video.

Frugal Beauty: 11 Household Items You Can Use As Beauty Products
(photo: stuartpilbrow) A $25 face mask may be cheap enough to make it onto a magazine’s “bargain” beauty buys list, but there are less expensive and more effective head-to-toe pampering products to be had in your fridge and pantry. Even professional aestheticians and stylists turn to household staples like lemons, baking soda or yogurt when it’s time to clear skin of acne, soften rough patches or keep teeth sparkling. “What better way to achieve a natural glow, then from natural products?” asks Lily Morgan, the founder of Lily Organics Fresh Skin Care. Post your own tips below, and try these beauty uses for common household goods:

How To Style Maiden Braids
Last month I did a makeover story with Kelsie and had many requests for a maiden braid tutorial. Yesterday she came in and we photographed these simple step by steps. Kelsie has extremely long and thick hair, but anyone with shoulder length or longer can do these braids (see my photo below for an example).
Natural looking beach curls in under 20 minutes!
I don’t know about you ladies, but I’m itching for the summer. It doesn’t help that department stores are already putting out their summer wear and swimsuits. Have you ever wanted to get that beautiful “natural” beach curl look to your hair? I want to share with you a technique that works for ALL types of hair, whether it be short, long, thick, thin, frizzy, or flat… and no curling iron involved! 1. Dampen your hair with a spray bottle or let it semi air dry after washing it.
Easy Cat Eyeliner Tutorial
Cat eyeliner has got to the most unpredictable thing in makeup. You never know what shape you'll end up with. One wrong move & you'll have to think of ways to make it look right.
Re-purposing: Tshirts into 5-strand-braided-headbands
I was walking through Target a few weeks ago and noticed this little knit fabric headband that was not just braided together…….but woven. I decided they were charging way too much for something that could be made with t-shirt scraps. And that means free. So there you have it.

The Beauty Department is hands down my favorite blog, and defiantly my favorite mentor text I chose. This blog has everything I would want in a site. It gives so many tips and ideas. Another thing this blog does that I love is the way the pictures are so important. This blog is very visual, as all of the tips are given in steps with pictures showing each of these steps. It is very easy to follow. This blog showed me how to take pictures and allow pictures to be incorporated more in your blog. by heidijmcgilvray Apr 10
