Magazine Eng Esp Lotta Nieminen Wrap magazine For the latest issue of Wrap we were lucky enough to be able to work with the super talented illustrator Alex Walker who created this image, ‘Cosmic Sorbet’, in response to the issues theme of balance. Alex said he made this image with quite a free-form approach to try and capture a sense of visual balance and to make something ‘process-led and fun’. Alex’s artwork is available as a pull-out print/wrapping paper in Wrap issue 11- ‘Balance’, alongside a in-depth interview with him. Order online at: wrap.bigcartel.com

STUDIO ERWIN OLAF FOTOGRAFIE GRAPHIC DESIGN Wim Crouwel - iconofgraphics.com Crouwel thought it would be better to design a typeface that was suitable for this machine instead of forcing it to use the typefaces we knew. He drew the New Alphabet, a highly abstract font, based on a dot-matrix system. With its straight lines, 90 degree angles and 45 degree roundings, either big or small, it always looked exactly the same. The face was as high as it was wide, thus lining in every way so it would fit in every grid system. This typeface was merely developped as a theory, a direction of thinking. Crouwel teached at diverse academies during the 70’s, before the computer period really started and was director of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam In the years 1985-1993. Crouwel still is an active member of the Dutch graphic design scene as an advisor in Total Design.
