25 Psychological Life Hacks Social situations are among the most important in our lives. Yet, there is a huge chance that you are oblivious to the plethora of unwritten social rules that structure everybody’s behaviour. Failing to comply to these cultural imprints can cause irreversible damage. Just following them blindly will not get you ahead. Hacking them, however, will give you the best results possible. 1) Assume comfort in any interaction. Our brain is an incredibly complicated instrument. In most of our social interactions, we find it difficult to feel comfortable among strangers because our brain tries to protect us from exposure. This however isn’t helping us when trying to be social and meet new people, is it? This is why assuming comfort is so powerful. 2) Pay attention to people’s feet when you are approaching them. Understanding exposure - a precursor One of the hardest concepts to understand in photography is exposure. Partly because it is an abstract concept rather than an apparently obvious and tangible action and partly because there are so many elements involved. One other problem that is seldom addressed is the fact that terms are thrown around with complete abandon. In this article I will introduce you to the following acronyms and their meanings; Ev (exposure value), Lv (luminance value), Av (aperture value) and Tv (time value). A camera records an image by exposing film or digital sensor to light entering through a lens for a predetermined length of time. The trick is knowing how long to open the shutter to the light in order to record a properly exposed image. So what do we have to work with? While there is a whole science behind the term luminance, suffice it to say that it is a measure of light intensity (in candelas) that passes through, reflects from or is emitted by an object. Ever hear of the "Sunny 16" rule?
