Cave of Crystal Giants In a nearly empty cantina in a dark desert town, the short, drunk man makes his pitch. Beside him on the billiards table sits a chunk of rock the size of home plate. Dozens of purple and white crystals push up from it like shards of glass. "Yours for $300," he says. This remote part of northern Mexico, an hour or so south of Chihuahua, is famous for crystals, and paychecks at the local lead and silver mine, where almost everyone works, are meager enough to inspire a black market. Nothing compares with the giants found in Cueva de los Cristales, or Cave of Crystals. It takes 20 minutes to get to the cave entrance by van through a winding mine shaft. Famous Ancient Sunken Cities Around the World (PHOTOS) Ruins of numerous such cities, submerged beneath the sea, have been discovered across the world. Most of these finds were a result of the constant effort to find the fictional and lost city of Atlantis, which has many assumptions associated with its actual existence. In March last year, researchers claimed that Atlantis may be found in the marshlands of the Dona Ana Park, southwest Spain, while few months later another research team likened an ancient 56-million-year-old landscape found submerged beneath the North Atlantic Ocean, west of the Orkney-Shetland Islands, to Atlantis. In 1999, British historian and cartographer Jim Allen claimed that the legendary lost city of Atlantis was located where present-day Quillacas is. Ley-lines There are several developed theories on the purpose of ley-lines, many of which offer valid potential; something which in itself illustrates the complexity of unravelling the myriad of alignments from several millennia of activity. It is likely that ley-lines are a product of different elements from several of the following theories, being created at different times, for different purposes. The following examples are the current contenders for explaining how such a dedication to straight-lines has led mankind its present position. It is important to recognise the distinction between ley-lines and geometric alignments. Spirit ways and Death roads - (Funerary paths): Although there is little direct evidence for 'religious' worship in the modern sense of the word at megalithic sites, there is certainly evidence that funerary rites were involved at several important locations (some of which may be classed a secondary use). 6 Insane Discoveries That Science Can't Explain We like to feel superior to the people who lived centuries ago, what with their shitty mud huts and curing colds by drilling a hole in their skulls. But we have to give them credit: They left behind some artifacts that have left the smartest of modern scientists scratching their heads. For instance, you have the following enigmas that we believe were created for no other purpose than to fuck with future generations. The Voynich Manuscript The Mystery: The Voynich manuscript is an ancient book that has thwarted all attempts at deciphering its contents. It appears to be a real language--just one that nobody has seen before. Translation: "...and when you get her to put the tennis racket in her mouth, have her stand in a fountain for a while. There is not even a consensus on who wrote it, or even when it was written. Why Can't They Solve It? Could you? Don't even try. As you can imagine, proposed solutions have been all over the board, from reasonable to completely clownshit. Our Guess:
Researchers Discover New Lineage of Ancient Human DNA from a 40,000-year-old human finger bone found in a Siberian cave points to a new lineage of ancient human, researchers report today. The find—the first made with genetic, not fossil evidence—suggests that Central Asia was occupied at that time not only by Neandertals and Homo sapiens but also by a third, previously unknown hominin lineage. "This is the most exciting discovery to come from the ancient DNA field so far," says Chris Tyler-Smith, a geneticist at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton, United Kingdom. The work complicates the human story once again, much as the discovery of the controversial H. floresiensis—a.k.a. the hobbit—has upset earlier and simpler views of early human migrations around the globe. If four early humans including the hobbit were alive about 40,000 years ago, "the amount of [human] biodiversity ... was pretty remarkable," says geneticist Sarah Tishkoff of the University of Pennsylvania. But who was this mystery hominin?
Unexplained Mysteries of LOST LANDS Many western cultures have myths of lost lands, where once lived our great ancestors. Typical is Lyonesse, a fabled land once said to exist between Land’s End and the Scilly Isles, off the British coast. On this land stood the city of Lions and some 140 churches. Another such fable concerns Atland. Some lost lands are more modern, and said to be rationally theorised to have existed. In the 1870s, the idea was taken up by the likes of Huxley and Wallace, leading scientists of their day. A further lost land is Mu, which, according to former Bengal Lancer, Col James Churchward, existed in the Pacific Ocean. As we can see, most of these lost lands are quite fanciful, but share a similar psychology to other forms of lost worlds. Shambhala was immortalised in the western mind by the hit film, Lost Horizon, based in the fantastic and mystical lost world of Shangri-la. The kingdom itself is said to be shaped as an eight-petalled lotus blossom. Why is this the case? Liked it ?
