Signs of Atlantis found in southern Spain: scientists - Health Scientists say they may have discovered the lost city of Atlantis buried deep under the marshlands of southern Spain. The legendary city is believed to have been "swallowed up by the sea," as the Greek philosopher Plato so famously put it 2,400 years ago. He wrote of a great city destroyed by floodwaters following an earthquake deep under the sea — an image that resonates at a time when Japan is struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake and tsunami off its northeast coast. A National Geographic television special that aired on Sunday details the work of American, Canadian and Spanish scientists as they attempt to prove Atlantis existed by following up on space satellite images showing unusual features in an area just north of Cadiz. The area is near the Straits of Gibraltar — widely thought to be the "Pillars of Hercules" Plato mentioned in his description of the location of Atlantis. The team is led by archaeologist Richard Freund of the University of Hartford in Connecticut.
The Seven Wonders of the World Junior high school students in Chicago were studying the Seven Wonders of the World. At the end of the lesson, the students were asked to list what they considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following received the most votes: 1. Egypt's Great Pyramids 2. While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are: 1. to touch... 2. to taste... 3. to see... 4. to hear... The room was so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop. May this story serve as a gentle reminder to all of us that the things we overlook as simple and ordinary are often the most wonderful - and we don't have to travel anywhere special to experience them. The Delk Print An Alleged Human Footprint on a Loose Rock [DRAFT] © 2008-2013, Glen J. Kuban Part of Kuban's Paluxy web site July 2013 Update: Young-earth creationists Carl Baugh, Don Patton, Ian Juby, and Jeremey Auldaney have been promoting the Delk print for several years, but as far as I know, still have not published any rigorous paper supporting its authenticity. Introduction In 2008 strict creationist Carl Baugh announced on his Creation Evidence Museum (CEM) website that he was in the possession of a "pristine" human footprint overlapped by a theropod dinosaur track in Cretaceous rock. Circumstances of the Discovery The CEM website indicates that in July 2000, "amateur archaeologist" Alvis Delk, assisted by James Bishop, both of Stephenville Texas, discovered the eleven inch "human footprint intruded by the dinosaur track" while working in the Cretaceous Limestone "in the vicinity of McFall Site I and II Sites where the Creation Evidence Museum team has been working since 1982." Ancient Egypt and The Alternative Story of Mankind's Origins (Full Documentary) Mystical, Magical & Magnificent Monasteries in Meteora (20 Pics) The caves in Meteora, Greece, had inhabitants for fifty millennia, but due to raids, “hermit monks” moved to the safety of sandstone rock pinnacles in the 9th century and began building monasteries. More monks and nuns came, building more monasteries perched high upon the cliffs. Wikipedia reports, “Access to the monasteries was originally (and deliberately) difficult, requiring either long ladders lashed together or large nets used to haul up both goods and people. This required quite a leap of faith — the ropes were replaced, so the story goes, only ‘when the Lord let them break.’” UNESCO World Heritage says, “The net in which intrepid pilgrims were hoisted up vertically alongside the 1,224 ft. cliff where the Varlaam monastery dominates the valley symbolizes the fragility of a traditional way of life that is threatened with extinction.” A view of Meteora monasteries in Greece. The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in Meteora, Greece.
Ice Cores May Yield Clues To 5,000-Year-Old Mystery COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The latest expeditions to ice caps in the high, tropical Peruvian Andes Mountains by Ohio State University scientists may shed light on a mysterious global climate change they believe occurred more than 5,000 years ago. They hope that ice cores retrieved from two tropical ice caps there, as well as ancient plants retrieved from beneath the retreating glaciers, may contain clues that could link ancient events that changed daily life in South America, Europe and Asia. Something happened 5,200 years ago that was abrupt and very large-scale, explained Lonnie Thompson, professor of geological sciences at Ohio State and researcher with the Byrd Polar Research Center. As snow falls on these ice caps and is packed tightly over time, it forms stratigraphic layers indicating annual accumulations. In September, Thompson and his team returned from drilling ice cores from glaciers atop two peaks in Peru. The deep core at the Coropuna crater site yielded other surprises.
Evidence of Sophisticated, Ancient, Unknown Cultures in North America....Page 38 Photo: Burnt Hill Site-Western Massachusetts, by Colgate Gilbert Mystery Hill, the Upton Cave, Calendar I and Calendar II, Gungywamp and Druid’s Hill are just several of the names given some incredibly important historical sites of which many have never heard a whisper. But their existence—and their importance—is becoming harder and harder to hide as more are discovered and interested folk become exposed to their grandeur. Sometime in the late 1600s or early 1700s, early American colonists began discovering and utilizing underground "root cellars" made of large, but manageable pieces of dressed stone as storage houses for food stuffs. Many also had carefully crafted openings in their roofs which allowed a small amount of light to pass through to the interiors. Before long, the inheritors of these properties thought their own American ancestors had built these cellars—some which were eighty feet deep and lined the entire way with roughly hewn stone.
The Bible backs same-sex couples: Point by point, why conservatives are wrong If the essence of marriage involves a covenant-keeping relationship of mutual self-giving, then two men or two women can fulfill that purpose as well as a man and a woman can. But is lifelong commitment between two adults sufficient for realizing a Christian basis for marriage? Or is there something unique about heterosexual relationships that prevents same-sex couples from truly illustrating Christ’s love for the church? The first response one might make based on Ephesians 5 is that same-sex unions are necessarily excluded from a Christian basis for marriage because Scripture uses only heterosexual language when describing it. But given the widespread association of same-sex behavior with lustful excess in the ancient world, it isn’t surprising that the biblical writers didn’t contemplate the possibility of same-sex marriage. Our question isn’t whether the Bible addresses the modern concepts of sexual orientation and same-sex marriage. So, too, eunuchs now have reason to rejoice.
